This was the route in 08, I assume it will be similar this year. You should be able to download as a TCX file. I was using Bikehike but they appear to have shut down their database!

Cheers Dave.

There's some cavernous potholes on the stretch from Hovingham to Malton, keep your eyes open.

Yes the routes the same ......... except we will start in Clarence St car park which is the other end of Gillygate which is about 300 yds from Exhibition Sq. The finish is the village hall in Stamford Bridge rather than the scout hall. Refreshments will be available so please refresh yourselves.
Andy Johnston will be doing the signing on and we will be setting off in groups of about 20 riders to prevent bunching on the way out of York.
Remember its a reliability ride not a race. See my comments on the weekend roundup regarding mudguards. Its about respect for your fellow riders!

Dave,

Thanks, shame about bikehike, I thought it a bit more user friendly than bikeroutetoaster.

Yes it is 0900 Arthur. Remember it is setting off from Clarence St car park. Andy J will be setting you off and will be there well before then if you want to get down a bit earlier.

Having never been out with the club previously is the reliability ride open to all. I am a keen cycles and want to start going on regular rides with the club, will this be the ideal opportunity for me to start? Also I won’t be ostracised for not having a mudguard will I!!!!! :)

Yes, perhaps No, and Yes!

To be serious, the Reliability Ride means different things to different riders - for many it is an unofficial 'first race of the season' - 60 miles with a few hills thrown in. For others it is simply a fast-paced group ride. Either way unless you're confident that you can get round on your own resources (ie you're 'Reliable') maybe start with one of the standard club rides?
paulM wrote:If you want to be part of a closely working training ride then sort your mudguards out! theres no excuse for not having mudguards and you really should have a rear mudflap - there easy enough to make and fit. I don't care if you only have 1 bike - buy race blades on and put a mudflap on it. It was pretty awful on Sunday and we were all pretty well covered but its on your bottles and getting in your mouth but it could be avoided. Plus it means you don't ride as close in the group.

Thanks Dr Dave,

I think that I am reliable enough for 100km and will give it a go.

Insha'Allah

Just a little concerned about the Reliability being billed as an "unofficial race" on here in front many new members that haven't ridden the event before. Remember there is no lead car, no marshals, no signage, no St John's Ambulance. Many of the roads could not be used safely for a RR even with those precautions in place.

The event is however a significant challenge. 100 hilly non-stop kilometres in early Feb deserve some respect.

Ride hard, enjoy yourself, but for goodness sake be careful and remember that you are also responsible for the safety of those around you, cyclists or otherwise.
