Reliability Ride
Will there be one this year?
Simon
This was the route in 08, I assume it will be similar this year. You should be able to download as a TCX file. I was using Bikehike but they appear to have shut down their database!

Yes the routes the same ......... except we will start in Clarence St car park which is the other end of Gillygate which is about 300 yds from Exhibition Sq. The finish is the village hall in Stamford Bridge rather than the scout hall. Refreshments will be available so please refresh yourselves.
Andy Johnston will be doing the signing on and we will be setting off in groups of about 20 riders to prevent bunching on the way out of York.
Remember its a reliability ride not a race. See my comments on the weekend roundup regarding mudguards. Its about respect for your fellow riders!

Yes, perhaps No, and Yes!hinch wrote:Having never been out with the club previously is the reliability ride open to all. I am a keen cycles and want to start going on regular rides with the club, will this be the ideal opportunity for me to start? Also I won’t be ostracised for not having a mudguard will I!!!!!
To be serious, the Reliability Ride means different things to different riders - for many it is an unofficial 'first race of the season' - 60 miles with a few hills thrown in. For others it is simply a fast-paced group ride. Either way unless you're confident that you can get round on your own resources (ie you're 'Reliable') maybe start with one of the standard club rides?

I don't care if you only have 1 bike - buy race blades on and put a mudflap on it. It was pretty awful on Sunday and we were all pretty well covered but its on your bottles and getting in your mouth but it could be avoided. Plus it means you don't ride as close in the group.
Just a little concerned about the Reliability being billed as an "unofficial race" on here in front many new members that haven't ridden the event before. Remember there is no lead car, no marshals, no signage, no St John's Ambulance. Many of the roads could not be used safely for a RR even with those precautions in place.
The event is however a significant challenge. 100 hilly non-stop kilometres in early Feb deserve some respect.
Ride hard, enjoy yourself, but for goodness sake be careful and remember that you are also responsible for the safety of those around you, cyclists or otherwise.
