long or shorter rides
Clearly a reduction in exercise without a reduction in calorie intake has led to your weight gain.
Healthy eating does not necessarily mean less calories.
So my advice to you is get back to your longer rides. If you are riding for fitness and not for any particular type of racing or performance ...

maximum heart rate
Max HR is specific to each rider. The general 220 minus age is used to establish a very general max hr. However 220 minus 8 beats for every 10 years I have found a bit more accurate so as a very general guide you should be 184 bpm. Bike Thefts

Race Team
I run a small race team which is a collaboration between a local cycle club plus a few sponsors and a local business.
The riders get somethings at trade, some funds towards race entries and race kit. Not cheap though costs £4k this year to support 5 riders.

Re: Max Heart Rate Question
I currently have a resting heart rate of 52 bpm and during excessive exercise (time trial training) I can peak 200 bpm. I am 45 years old and cycle four times a week ( approx 80 to 120 miles a week). My average max heart rate is 185 bpm. Anything over this rate is usually just peaks and not usually ...
