Sunday 17th June Club Ride - Pateley Bridge, Nidderdale

Post by SteveW »

This month's ride is in the beautiful Upper Nidderdale valley, in the Dales.

The start and finish point for both the fast and steady groups will be Pateley Bridge showground car park, next to the river in the town (OS grid ref SE 15744 65471). Meet at 10.15 am for a 10.30 am start. There are toilets opposite the car park. Car parking is £1.80 for over 4 hours, so quite reasonable. Alternatively, there are some unrestricted streets to be found to park on, but it would be best to park together. Travel time is approximately 1 hour - please share lifts if possible !

The fast group ride is approximately 25 miles of mostly straightforward trail riding, with a reasonable to good fitness level required. We will pass by 2 reservoirs, and get some great views from the tops and ridges. There are some on/off road steep climbs and mostly off road descents thrown in, with some technical, rocky, loose sections to test you ! These can be tackled at your own speed, or walked if required. Hardtails welcome, but if you have a choice then you will enjoy the advantages of full suss for this ride! I would not recommend singlespeeds, but the choice (as always) is yours...

There are toilets at Scar House Reservoir, with picnic tables, so this would make a good lunch stop. However, you will need to bring some food, as there is no obvious pub stop around lunchtime.

Alternatively, bring something to eat during the ride and enjoy a post ride feast back in Pateley !

Ian C is leading the steady group and will post details of the route shortly.

Hope to see you on Sunday... :)

Hi All,

The steady ride will start from the same place and will be about 2.5 to 3 hours. There are plenty of Cafes to wait in after if you are coming with a fast group rider :-)

The recent wet weather has made the higher trails very rocky, so I am going to keep this one in the valley.

It will be suitable for all. Post if you are coming - Drop me a PM or post if you have any questions.

Weather update - looks good !

Post by SteveW »

Hi all,
The weather of late has been mixed and largely wet as you know, but the latest forecasts for the Harrogate area from the BBC and the Met Office are for a dry day tomorrow, with a sunny afternoon ! Suncream anyone...
It will be a little breezy, especially on the tops, but the exercise, views, and fun will be worth it.
I have spaces if anyone needs a lift from York - send me a PM with your mobile number and I'll text you.
See you tomorrow,
Steve

Steve and Ian -
I would absolutely love to come tomorrow - my brake pads died yesterday with all the mud. I have some more ordered but they're not here yet.

If anyone has 2 sets of Hayes Stroker Ryde brake pads hanging around that they're not using, I would love to borrow them and then give you the new ones when they arrive (should be Monday) - bit of a tall order but worth asking!

Otherwise, I will see you all soon and have a good ride!

Kazled,
I don't have pads to fit your brakes, but there is a good bike shop near Pateley Bridge that I'm sure will have - Stif Cycles, at Summerbridge, open at 10am tomorrow - just giving enough time to fit them for the ride !
If you want to know more, let me know.

Hi Ian and Helen,
Glad you had a good time, and very glad to have you join us. By the way, the stats (according to my phone tracking) for the fast ride was 27 miles, 3350 feet of climbing, and a ride time of 3:15, excluding stops...a good bit of exercise !
Regards, Steve
