Yorkshire Alps.....

Post by Rob »

......is the next big ride on the Challenge Series, planned for 17th July.

This route is derived from an old Clifton trial, popular in the 60s and 70s. This was a Private Time Trial, where the Racing Secretary timed you out from the Square and timed you back in later in the day. The original route (you better believe it) was to ride the A59 to Harrogate, then up the A1 to Scotch Corner, the A66 to Brough, up Tan Hill from the back, Butterubs, Fleets Moss, Greenhow and home through Nidderdale.

The record is an incredible 9 hours and 21 minutes.

We've done it as a clubrun a few times now, taking somewhat longer than this. Our route is adapted in as much as we use the lanes parallel to the A1, through Richmond as far as Scargill, then over The Stang, then Tan Hill and follow the original route. Our route is maybe 20k shorter, but we've added Stang Forest...

265k, a lot of climbing (including some of the highest roads in England), shop-stop in Richmond, café in Hawes, whatever we can find open in Grassington. 0700 start.

A big day, a big adventure, one to tell the Grandkids about.

You know you want to....

No map needed Chris, we're just going to ride together.
If you want to meet us on the way out, we're taking A19 north to Shipton then Helperby Lane.
Otherwise, see you in The Square at 0700.
