Weekend Roundup 20/21st

Post by Rob »

Apparently conditions were fairly benign in York on Sunday. It was pretty wild over the high ground though. We've had colder conditions for the Solstice Tan Hill, windier, wetter, but this year was a unique combination of the three.

It was a bit of a project yesterday, judging the pace, handling the bike in the wind and keeping it all together. The roads were quiet though and we never had a block headwind. And while the big views were shrouded in horizontal thin rain, there was a certain grandeur in the landscape!

We keep finding slightly better routes through the lanes and what used to be 143 miles, is now down to 140. Let me tell you, I was glad of that at the end! Kevin will remember how Sean Kelly refused to clean his bike for a week after his first Roubaix win..... well I can't see mine getting much attention today.....

A massive "chapeau" to my comrades in arms, Muzzy, Andy, Steen, Hooky Junior and Jonathan. And a mention for Heather or also did her own solo version, mid-week, starting and finishing at her digs in Pateley.....

Back to some sensible rides in the New Year.

I spent two days at the end of last week digging trenches rodding pipes trying to get our septic tank to function. Not sure it was ideal preparation for a winter Tan Hill ride. On the other hand we had a lot of bad stuff to deal with on this ride yesterday so maybe it should get a note in the training manuals.

My third attempt and the first time right round during the winter. The weather prevented me from getting the 140 miles done in the past two years so pleased with myself today. Could not have done it without the good company of the other five big thanks to you all.

Enjoy the holidays and looking forward some great rides in 2015.
