Clifton CC Hill Climb Result - Sun 6th Oct

Post by ClaireG »

Great morning at Bishop Wilton for the Club Hill Climb today :D
A record turn-out and some fantastic rides which you will see below, the standard seems high!

My biggest thanks go to the helpers: Andy G for passing his debut as a Pusher Off with flying colours; Mark B & Steen for sterling work up top; Robert for timekeepering and Daves Byworth and I’Anson for impromptu help as number caller and arithmetic checker. Also to Siobhan, Edith & Erika as the signing-on clerks.

Congratulations to the new Clifton CC Hill Climb Champions: Jenny Foreman & Eugene Cross. Jenny equalled Heather’s Ladies Club Hill Climb record with today’s scorching ascent :D
Fifteen year old Eugene triumphed in the event, the first of a host of Juniors blazing their trails today. I am sure last year’s winner Richard Douthwaite would be first to congratulate the youngster, but Richard kept in winning ways by taking the 1st Vet prize this year, with a speedy 6m 15secs. Craig Wooler rolled those big MTB tyres very speedily up the tarmac to claim 1st MTB prize.

If I say any more, there’ll be nothing to add to for the promised article for the Cliftonite!! Although, if I have made any spelling / typos below, please let me know (I blame your writing, what do you do at school these days? Use a keyboard all the time, I presume?  )

Claire, Thanks for organising the event once again this year and to everyone who helped out on the day. I would never classify the event as truly enjoyable (until it is over!) but it was a great turn out and fantastic weather. Congratulations to Eugene and Jenny. I'll make sure I give the trophy a polish before passing it on to Eugene in Jan via Kev.
With all these 50kg juniors on the scene, not sure I will every make it onto the podium again, but it gives me something to aim for in my dotage.
Well done to everyone who gave it a go.

May I have a request for a special category for the hill climb in the form of having a cold? If this does become a genuine category would we have to show a doctors note at signing on?
