Cracked frame on giant anthem :(

Post by allyst170 »

Doing dalby red route today, stopped for a breather and noticed a crack in the frame of my mates giant anthem, it's a the point where the seat tube butts the top tube. The crack is on the top tube part next to the weld where it meets the seat tube. We immediately checked seat post and was about an inch further in than the minimum mark,(original giant post). No accidents and he's not in to jumping so seams a bit strange. It's a 2010 x2, unfortunatly the original dealer is no longer in business and would have been miles away anyway. Any ideas on what to do? Not sure what warranty the frame has, and can it be taken to any giant dealer? Or could a specialist repair it? At the moment it's just a hairline crack stopped ridding it as soon as it was spotted.

Cheers

Out of curiosity, a quick internet search for “Giant anthem crack” showed a product recall has taken place in the past; the frame cracks in the same place as you describe.

Your friend’s goal ought to be a straight replacement if he bought it new.
I don’t know the best route to this, but a few pictures of the crack and the proof of purchase emailed to the UK distributor should end happily. 8)

Took it down to fulford cycles today. Can't praise them enough for fantastic service. New frame will be fitted by end of the week. Top marks!
