Straightforward Sunday clubrun for us. 8 in the Square. Grey dismal weather, but good riding conditions with hardly any wind. Out through Castle Howard for early cafe in Helmesley. Then back via Hawnby and descent of Boltby Bank. Quite a bit of snow on the top which made things quite picturesque for a while. Only drama of the day was Andy pulling his brake cable through the calliper on the descent to Boltby and having to find somewhere soft to crash in a hurry!
Well done to Chris for some serious teeth gritting on his first clubrun
Thanks for the company everyone.
Cockayne next week - get your climbing legs out.

Lack of responses suggests not many were out this weekend - but I know this isnt true!
Headed out with the Sunday clubrunners. A good group as ever and as they took a left into the cafe in Helmsley I took a right up the Stokesley road. The snowline started near the first Rieuvaulx turn. I took the second past the abbey. The snow had been deep enough in the village for the snow plough to have been out but the roads were clear when I passed through. Over the river and right up the nasty climb to Old Byland where the local tradition is to spread the contents of the fields - on the road! I got to descend Boltby bank an hour or two before the others and there was still a bit of slush on the road which required some careful braking!
Rob is correct - there was hardly any wind but it was coming from the east so from Sutton under Sutton Bank I was never out of it. The Kilburn / Crayke / Sutton on Forest direction home was a real slog. Was cheered on by seeing Ginnie & Phil at Oulston, Tim J at Crayke and Charlie Bubbles on the B road. Dead on 70 miles D to D. I cannot disclose the average speed but it wasnt hard or clever.
Ther hard points this weekend go to Azizulhasni Awang. Did anyone see that race - I watched it live on Saturday and not realised he had got up and finished third in theKeirin final at Manchester with a 20cm long piece of the track through his calf. Meanwhile the little lambs on the subs bench at Man City had a hot water bottle each. Bless!

I know that splinter was horrendous. How on earth do they get it out?paulM wrote:the hard points this weekend go to Azizulhasni Awang. As for myself managed 2 and a half hours on Sunday around 45 miles for me . Just concentrating on building my fitness again after long periods off the bike. Aiming to be back out on a club run sometime soon preferably in better and warmer weather.

Here is another who was out & managed to see a few other riders as well as catching up with Rob's grp in the cafe at Helmsley.
After doing the reliability route to Ampleforth when I decided to try a new route back up to Hambleton a climb that i didn't know what was ahead of me - but I pushed on & over the steep section near the bottom after which I hit the snow line but managed to keep upright. Near the top I ran into a Car rally & got a lot of strange looks but once I got onto the A170 had a very fast but cold ride down into Helmsley.
On the return I came back via the short route because of the wind but had a surprisingly good ride over by Farlington etc

Had a fantastic time with Rob’s Club run on Sunday. I was a bit apprehensive about whether Rob would keep Muzzy on a tight rein, something he completely failed to do on the monument climb where we didn’t see him for dust. Things thankfully settled down after that from Castle Howard through to Helmsley. I scared myself silly at that point when I blindly started to follow Muzzy up the hill and looked over my shoulder to see everyone else heading left into the café! I’m still having nightmares picturing Muzzy bounding off ahead of me like a wild kangaroo! After nosebags, we climbed the long drag up the B1257 and headed towards Hawnby. Rob sounded the granny-ring warning bell and, together with John C and Tony G, led us up the long, snow-lined lung-buster out of Hawnby towards Boltby. The snow on surrounding hills gave it a fantastic French Alps feel. The big drop down Boltby Bank wasn’t easy in the slush with muddy brakes but it no doubt is a hell of a lot easier than going up it, although I’m not sure Andy would agree with that today
Allan and I paced each other in the group through the rolling hills around Kilburn and Crayke, which finished me off nicely. I agree with Rob that Chris played a blinder on his first club run.
Rob said this club run was ‘straight forward’. I don’t know about anyone else but Sunday’s ride definitely had the feel of the first official training session of the Club run season, with serious conditioning now started, albeit with a bit of frivolity thrown in. Tbh, I was shot by the end and even had a leg-cramp moment near the York ring road. It really was a great hit out for challenges ahead. Thanks very much to Rob for leading us round and stretching us on the hilly stuff. Of course thanks to everyone for a great day.

This is nothing to do with last weeks rides but I did not know what to postit under.
Anyway those who knew and can remember my accident in May 2009 which I had during the selby bike ride will be glad to hear that despite having recovered from it I still have no lower teeth but having gone through a continuing legal battle and various medical assessments I have finally had the first stages of dental implants carried out. This included two bone grafts to my upper and lower jaw where the missing teeth were. I had this done on Friday 25th. I am now rather soreand swollen but generally ok despite the cocktail of antibiotics I am on.
So basically I migt not be out on the bike just yet until I feel a bit better
Not sure why I have posted this but really it is an update to those who I received get well messages from at the time, so thanks.
