2011 Clifton Sporting Events

Since the OGM was attended by existing committee members and just a few welcome new faces, I thought I'd put something on here for the wider audience of the club. Almost all races/timetrials/etc that anyone from Clifton enters are promoted by clubs just like this one and hence run and marshalled by riders (you've guessed it) just like you. I'm happy to put in a fair chunk of the organisational time but I really really need people to share some of that work in advance and to commit to doing jobs on the day. I know we all want to just ride our bikes but (i) no events happen without someone somewhere giving up some time to make it happen and (ii) I'd quite like to ride my bike too!

Okay, here's the info:-

BC/LVRC Race Day Sunday 10th July, North Newbald. LVRC (veterans) race start 10am, BC 2nd/3rd/4th cat race starts 1:30pm. Lunch will be provided (for marshals/helpers) inbetween.

Needed:- On the day – marshals (approx 6) plus start/finish helpers (approx 4). Drivers with cars (minimum 4). HQ assistants (approx 2). It would be great if we could have a kitchen crew to provide refreshments after the event. I'm sure we can either arrange minibus or could sort out lifts with the car drivers.

York Cycling City Races Sunday 21st August. Four events (Brompton Challenge, Youth A/B, Support Race 3rds/4ths and Elite Race E/1st/2nds). Racing starts at 4pm and finishes at 7pm.

Needed:- Between now and August:-

Admin pre-race – attendance at planning meetings, liaison with council and BC, dealing with circuit preparation issues etc.

Entries pre-race – processing, preparing start sheet, dealing with enquiries, handling entry fees.

Publicity / sponsorship pre-race – Seeking press coverage, prizes and other support, generally raising the profile of the club, promotion of Go-Ride etc. Produce programme for sale on the day. Publicise Brompton Challenge race and get team entries.

On the day:- Marshals within the circuit at corners to deal with signalling/control of race (approx 6). Event HQ helpers for signing on, dealing with EOL entries, numbers, licences (Approx 4). Programme sellers (Approx 2). We will not be responsible for getting shoppers safely across the circuit!!

Yorkshire Spring Circuit Series / Summer Circuit Series, Tockwith. Two six-race series working jointly with five other clubs; we host one event in each series - 17th May and 5th July.

We need, on the night:- Event HQ helpers for signing on, dealing with EOL entries, numbers, licences (Approx 2/3). General assistants to help BC officials (approx 4).

We also need someone to organise the SPOCO series. Cath has run it for years and has done all the work for you - set up standard forms and systems so it's now much easier. I'll deal with the CTT/Police paperwork and Dawn has volunteered to deal with the results - we need someone to do the rest:- Coordination, making sure we have event organisers, ensuring paperwork and signage gets to the right event organisers, answering queries, etc.

Please can we have people to take on these jobs.

This is now a very big club - there are enough members that no-one should be getting stuck with any responsibility time and time again. All these events are good fun to be involved with. If you'd like to take on one of these jobs, please email roadrace at cliftoncc dot org.
