Thinking of joining

Post by mikes »

Hi, me and my son both ride for Scarborough Paragon.
I have been advised by British Cycling coach Simon Watts that Lewis who is 14 should join Clifton second claim.
He has no plans on leaving Paragon as he is well established in the club.
The thing is we dont have club coaches and the BC think he would benefit from this.
He was riding at the velodrome with the olympic development team yesterday and really needs people to train with of his own age group.

Just wanted to see what club members thought.

Lewis is as I said only 14 and is into time trialing and needs to get faster for next season, his quickest is a long 22

thanks

Hi Mike

It's a pretty broad question, we have 200+ members of all ages and abilities. Currently there are 15 or so riders in the 13 to 18 age group all wanting to get better. Our youth/junior section, is in an early stage of development, as Clifton were in a similar position to your club for many years. Clifton also had riders at the Velodrome yesterday!

Our current provision for youth and junior riders is as follows

Saturday

11.00 - 12.00 skills training, group riding, low speed

12.00 - 1.00 group ride, lead by coach(s) these will be gradually extended as we get into winter.

Monday

6.00 - 8.00 pm we go to Middlesborough, Southbank Karting Circuit, training sessions lead by BC coaches.

For 2011 we will be preparing our riders for a season of circuit racing.

Your son's welcome to come along and try out a few sessions before making any decisions.

? worth speaking with Phil Bixby about the Saturday Training Rides. I know it's mostly adults but if he was doing long 22s last year he'll likely be too fast for most Clifton Go Ride trainees?

It's not about full gas training rides with seniors riders. He has a good engine demonstrated by his TT times, for any young rider to progress onto Academy or ODP they need all the ingredients that make up a good rider. Bunch riding, close contact riding, efficient group riding etc are one of them. Which can be coached & practised at our sessions.
