This should be an absolute belter again. The long one follows, roughly, the old Clifton Yorkshire Alps route. I couldn't find it on the AUK website, but Mark gave me the following link:
Mark> I’m definitely up for meandering round the long one (ie. 220k, 137m) at “let’s get round” pace rather than “let’s knock this off before lunch” pace …something akin to the pace we did Ron Kit would be great! I consulted various PGM veterans at the 3B’s last w/e and quickly concluded that I won’t be going with the main group on a tough trip like this...Fleet Moss could be ugly after 83 miles in the legs (including Richmond, Tan Hill and Butter Tubs). At the same time, I’m very keen to keep piling the miles in to toughen up and you can’t do that sitting on the sofa watching the TdF! I was even contemplating riding it solo, so if you’re happy with a picnic-paced outing, I’d definitely be up for it…BTW, is there an official Club record for the number of cakes eaten on a club run?…maybe we should aim to give that a shake
Darren,
In answer to your question of "is there an official Club Record for the most number of cakes consumed on a club run?"...........
- I'm not sure, but a good guess is that Howard would hold it - that is, the 'olden days' Howard, (before he became all sleek and streamlined!). He was renowned for taking extra hours at a cafe stop in order to sample all gastronomical delights!!
However, I think it is a title worth contesting for and perhaps even merits a special Club prize at the Club Dinner / Presentation?
Good luck in your toughening up miles! I'm enjoying the sofa option of recording the ITV4 TdF hi-lights! Cav's tears!!! so predictable - tell us something interesting.......
For me it's 18 miles out, but this year it will be 20 miles out and 21 miles back. I've got no response from the organiser, so I'm going to turn up with a form, if I cannot enter it I'll wait round the corner and tag along until you hit the checkpoints and wait round the corner.

Will please do not do this.
The organizers closing date is quite clear
Either enter properly, which means getting a form in for the long route, or don't ride.
I just called the organiser, I can bring a form on the day and enter, I don't usually like calling people I'm crap with phones and often cause confusion.
Mark L> Impressive application of mathematical principles by you above to calculate the CTAI - Cake Time Availability Index. Leaving aside the assumption that no cakes are eaten whilst pedalling, you still need to adjust your input parameters. The PGM website says we need to be back in 13 hours by 8.30pm, not by dark…critically, that reduces our CTAI from 3.5 to 2 hours!
Claire> If we were in a Grand Tour, I’m definitely imagining a Cake Points Jersey, maybe like the red polkadot but with little pictures of cakes and pastries replacing the dots
Howard> Yes, one of life’s great injustices…that the cake consumption curve is inversely related to the cycling performance curve
Hi, Not sure how many people have entered this and I don't know many as I've only recently joined Clifton but I'm going to give it a go. Happy to tag along with any group I can keep up with, and I'm happy to read my own map if I have to, but any company on offer would be great! Mandy
