Croft – 28 July 2009

Post by Jason »

Rich and I raced (well, “rode” probably better describes my efforts…) at Croft last night – the first of four weekly BC races that follow the same format as the TLI races earlier in the year.

The forecast heavy rain arrived right on cue as we assembled on the start line, and large puddles were forming by the end of lap one (of 15). The gritty spray was supplemented by the, erm, effluent of geese, who seemed to have used part of the track as a latrine… I wonder why I’ve got a bit of a gunky eye today?!

We set off with the first group, but it didn’t seem to work very well and before long it had split up in to a few different bunches of four or five riders. Rich and I both worked hard to keep our little bunch away from the faster groups behind us, but the inevitable happened and we were soon caught. I went out the back pretty promptly after that.

I rolled round for a few more laps trying to catch the tails of some faster groups before deciding that being cold, wet and dropped was not how I really wanted to spend the evening. When I got back to the car park I discovered that I wasn’t the first to make that decision…

Hope the TLI was more fruitful.

Jason.
