So are the Spurn Point'ers still out there? How was the rest of the ride?

Yep, we got there. It's a long way and we all agreed that we wouldn't want to have to drive there
Lovely sunny day with the winds blowing the right direction, I certainly enjoyed it. I hope the others didn't mind too much my unusual route through Hull.
Judging by the easy spinning legs on the way back, people found it not as tough as some had expected.

A very enjoyable day with good weather apart from a few drops of rain whilst riding through Hull on the way home. 12 (?) of us completed the ride with a couple of P*******S early on but none on the way home. Stopping for a breaks in Withernsea at Spurn Point and at a Subway in Hull.
The square to Spurn Point and back to the Square was 161 miles at an average speed of 17mph and I was home for about 8:15pm. Excellent navigation by Steve down some great quiet little lanes, tracks and staircases!
Was starting to get stiff legs for the last 15 miles but made it home without problems. Didn't think I would be able to ride that far as the furthest I've done for a fair few years is 85 miles, think the flat roads helped!

Spurn Ride
Well done Steve for a VERY enjoyable route, sorry for the negativity at the start ! with regards to my return from Spurn I was trying to just amble along but with the wind behind me & on the big ring I was just sailing along in the mid 20's without a lot of effort. I think that I was probably getting more out of the wind assist on my own than you all might have done in the group - either that or I am fitter than I thought. Any way I kept looking behind me expecting the Clifton train to be steaming along - I got to Paul & couldn't see you back there, so kept going to the Deep still expecting to see you along the waterfront near the ferry terminal but still no sighting. So with it being 4.00 oclock & thinking that cafe at the bridge would be closing at any time, I decided to check the only other source I.e my brother in Cottingham for sustanence. Which meant a diversion off the planned route as well as some climbs back over High Hunsley & then getting back on route at Cliffe, where I started looking out for you all again - but still no sign & whilst my average speed dropped a bit; it was 16.88 at Cottingham I still got back with 154 miles on the clock from the square at 19.25 with an average of 15.84. so 74 miles on my own which I am very pleased about. Once again Steve thanks for a great route Iam sure we can use some variations on this for other rides into East Yorks.

I got dropped near Old Ellerby and upon coming over the brow of the hill, couldn't see anyone and was confronted with a series of junctions and not a clue which one to take! Decisions, decisions!
I asked a (clearly blind) man tending his garden if he'd seen a large group of cyclists moments earlier and he swore he hadn't and he'd been in his garden all morning, so I made the decision to head down the ultimately wrong road, and ended up on the edge of wild, wild East Hull.
I swear they were trying to get my wheels off as I was riding along Preston Road.
As my legs were not feeling the best, I headed back along the bike route from Hedon and stopped in Hull for a refuel, and went to every bike shop I knew of as I had no more tubes left and my luck with p*nctures on Sunday wasn't great. Every shop, bar one on Anlaby Road, was closed, and that shop only kept mountain bike tubes, so I set off for the Humber Bridge cafe, and told the woman serving to mention to you that I had been in (as it turns out, that was a waste!) and came back on the route via Ferriby etc.
I made it 121 miles door to door, and was as burnt as a berry from a glorious days riding, 2 tubes down and a split rear tyre, that off road section near Rotsea was a bit interesting to say the least, as was dodging the horse boxes pulling out from the horse show near Melbourne and almost wiping me out in the process.
Next year, I'll get a few more miles in my legs first, I think!
