Challenge Ride Series Update

Post by MarkA »

A great turnout for both rides so far. Thanks to all for supporting. And best of all everyone seems to be enjoying their riding.

Results for Scotton are up on website in super fast time. Good work by Dave and team, plus Arthur of course.

I don't know what people think but was considering posting page on website to list who has ridden what? The idea was not for this to be a "competition" with a "league table". But it may be nice to see how many club members are taking part - plus everyone deserves a bit of credit.

Next two rounds are fast approaching. See: http://www.cliftoncc.org/static.php?content=challenge for full list of events.

The first event is a 3 pointer as we head out Club Run style to Spurn Point. Thanks to Steve Roebuck for leading this.

If you are planning to ride either of the Audax leaving Wigginton 2nd May need to start thinking about getting entry in.

See discussion board for more details re meeting up at square to ride out: or else meet at Wigginton School NB SCHOOL not Recreation Hall!

The 300 is one of the most "accessible" in the Audax calendar. If you have ever fancied riding a 300 why not give it a go? Its an early start but if you set the alarm early enough and sit in the bunch an easy ride through to Malton. Then a quick refuel before familliar roads via Castle Howard to Ripon. I remember it having the potential to be a bit breezy on the stretch up to Richmond - so might be good time to sit in again! - and the return ride via Stokesley includes Clay Bank but that is the only real hill on the ride. Plenty of cafe controls make this a sociable event.

Hi Mark

Speaking personally the 'challenge' is largely in making myself available to ride the various events given family and other commitments. Unfortunately this year my availability seems limited and the events I have been able to schedule aren't those selected for the series :(

Regarding the list I feel it's a good idea.....

I'm really gutted I'm not in York to do these events :(, these events where some of the best rides last year and where great fun and training!

Round here in Manchester you get nothing like the good rides back in york.

Hi Mark, I've entered the 300K. I rode it in 2007. Are you riding the 300? Thing is though I'm having second thoughts about doing it now - I can ride long steady distance anyway, intensity is what I need, so I might go and ride Howard's ride that Saturday instead (and I wouldn't need to get up so early). I shall see how I feel nearer the time.

The core contingent of Howard's ride will be in France that day - including Howard - so if you fancy leading the faster Saturday ride on the 2nd (and 9th) there could be an 'S' ride instead!

Hi Jon

I'm doing the 100k on Saturday, starts Wigginton Primary School 10am. I've already entered. Don't think I'll be able to do a hilly 300k

Hi Dan
The 300 is not hilly - nothing we are not used to around Sledmere and then Howardian Hills
Only Clay Bank on way back which is quite "scenic" and almost a welcome change!
I am hoping to get out for the 100 but not 100% sure so have not committed to taking group round
Of course any Cliftonite welcome to join me should i make it to the start on time and not leave half my bike in the road riding out!

Steve - Sorry for not replying. If i manage to get out it will only be for 100. We will manage to get a ride in together this year!

I'm planning on doing the 100k but I will be taking it at a very steady pace.
