Weekend Roundup

Post by Rob »

Shame about Iain's "chute", how was it for everyone else?

Claire was on the road at 8-30 on Saturday to get 3 hours in before some family stuff in the afternoon. She came back with frozen bottle and pack-ice on her forehead!

By contrast, Sunday was absolutely fabulous. From the Square Helen took Phil on a jaunt to Hutton-le-Hole while Paul and I tackled Dalby - Langdale end. Beautiful crisp winter day with little ice to worry about.

'little ice to worry about'

It takes very little ice to worry me especially as I managed to find a patch before we even got out of York. We had a good ride. Not sure how many miles as we did a couple of de-tours, but hidden view was worth the trip, as on a clear day like yesterday you can see for miles. We stopped at the cafe at Hovingham and fuelled with apple pie and custard made it a longer ride home by including the Scacldeton dig before heading back via Terrington Bank.

I was out on Sunday trying out all the winter equipment (over shoes, skull cap and liner gloves) I bought last week at the cycle promotions event. I had a lovely solo cycle over to Lotherton hall where I met my wife, children, Claire G and Siobhan for a wander around the bird park followed by a picnic. Thankfully Claire brought some hot tomato soup along otherwise I think I would have been too cold to get back on the bike for the return journey. It took me until Tadcaster before I really warmed up.

Was out with Kevin's group on Saturday Morning for the first time in a while which went to Malton via Sutton on Forest, Terrington, Whenby and back through Kirkham , Crambe, Bossal. Despite the freezing conditions and fog had a very enjoyable 94 mile round trip. The bike path made interesting navigating in the fog at half past four in the afternoon but stayed upright and once I was on the road made it safely home. Everything forward facing had a layer of ice encrusted onto it and I would be lying if I said I wasnt glad to be back in the warm.

Will be out again next Saturday for the Xmas dinner ride. See you all then.
