Tour of Britain

Post by barberj »

Was thinking of cycling over to Dalby Forest next Thursday the 11th September to see the end of Stage 5 of the Tour of Britain. It starts in Hull and goes via Scarborough. ITV4 should be showing the whole tour this year from the 7th to the 14th September. Anyway was wondering if anybody else wants to ride out from York that day?

Hi.

If the weather is ok that day I'd like to cycle out from York to Dalby Forest so would not mind coming along.

You think we could get our faces on the TV?

I looked at the times and tried to calculate the speed and apparently they are doing 26mph average over the whole distance according to the time table

I should hope so too! There's an interesting factsheet on Tony Williams' excellent Flamme Rouge website - http://www.flammerouge.je/content/3_fac ... wer082.htm - where he compares the power output of Jen Voigt with his own - it sort of spells out just how many steps down that particular staircase us club racers are (some more than others, sadly  )

27mph is rubbish. I did 28.5 down Foss Islands today.

I'm not talking about a short sprint, 27 would be rubbish, I did 33mph along the riverside, I want to be able to do average like that over long miles one day, maybe its impossible, proberbly is. But like you did 27 along foss islands, I did 33 along the river bank, imagine a pro doing that, it would be 40 in both places lol.

Lately I've been looking less at my speedo, but I'll never get away from the fact I like going fast, I'm still waiting for someone to tell me, if I want to go fast get a motorbike or something

If it was allowed as the racers went by I'd chuck my bike over the fence and try keep on the back of them all, would be fun trying to hold onto em.

At the top of the Col d'Aspin in this years Tour de France, someone did precisely that as Nicholas Jalabert struggled over the top in last place.

This lad, in full local racing kit, jumped on as he went past, and rode 5 yards behind him over the top of the Col with the Gendarmes after him, then went motoring down the other side.

No idea how far he got, but it was brilliant to watch someone with the balls to do it.

If I was Nicholas Jalabert I'd have punched his lights out! Will, if you plan to do this then do not wear your Clifton jersey. In fact, see if you can borrow a VC York one.

I don't think he had the energy, he got spat out at the bottom of the climb and looked shot.

I got a pic of him near the top, I'll stick it up when I find it.

LOL! I'd not do it I dont have the guts, only if it was officially allowed

Dont suppose anyone will be cycling on the cycle track on wednesday? if so could you check the main road into naburn and see if its still flooded? Where the little road goes to get onto the cycle track, as if it is I'll have to go up a massive long drag and onto the cycle track for longer but rather just go normal way if possible as it uses less energy.

So what time is people meeting at the square as I think Dave C is wanting to ride up aswell so thats 3? so far.

How about 10.00 at square on Thursday and go via Castle Howard, Malton, Yedingham, Snainton, Troutsdale, Langdale End and round the Forest Drive?
