Weekend Round Up 14-15/02

Post by HowardD »

Saturday saw Group H (8 starters) striking out on a Kevin Designed(TM)route to Bedale. Another great day out, almost entirely ice free (we had to walk along one lane for a few hundred yards NW of Warlaby). Friendly cafe in Bedale (Aunt Sally's) in marked contrast to the stretch of A684 we used on approach.

Most memorable moment for me: being given a good kicking up the Yearsley climb by Paul M!

I think all of us who did the entire route will have clocked just over 100 miles door to door, Virginie for the first time-so a special "chapeau" to her!

On Sunday, Me, Dave C, Rob?, Chris?, Bernard, Helen, Nigel from bike shop. (sorry if I got any names wrong I'm crap at remembering names) set off on an 80mile ride, York, strensall, pickering and helmsley.

Was around 110miles for me :D, it was a nice and warm day, a very wintery view up in the hills, I could not believe the amount!, was nice and hilly, some bits where challenging. Avoided a puncture with Nigel, a large chunk of glass was hiding in my tyre!!

I look forward to Howard's ride on Saturday!, if I'm well enough to do it.

GPS Log for Sunday:

Interesting that each week the calorie count is going up - a function of time/distance I guess. We'll be over 6000 'Howard-Garmin' calories next week!

I nearly wish I'd walked, the nearest I have come to falling off at speed, I was looking at the grass/snow bank for the softest landing but somehow stayed on, good viewing for Shaun following.

Apart from that a very enjoyable ride, 100.5 miles for me.

Kevin had about a dozen riders out on Saturday with an improvised route avoiding most of the snow. We headed out to Strensall then Oswarldkirk, Coxwold to Raskelf.
Richard H put in a cameo appearance at the coffee shop after chasing us half way round N. Yorkshire with our changing lunch venue. He then lead the group to York centre home after Tollerton. Kev guided Arthur and I back via Aldwark.
66 miles and 711m of climbing with good company and a good route thanks Kevin.

Paul, Seb, Jodie and I joined Wiily's Sunday ride. 8 riders set of from the square along the cycle track via Beningbrough and Easingworld to Raskelf cafe (my 3rd visit in a week!). after refueling we left Willy and his wheelers to head home via Aldwark bridge. We did 51 miles, Jodie managed to turn the tug pedals about 3 times- a very enjoyable afternoon!

Have to say that 51 miles on a trailer-bike is impressive stuff for a 6 year old! Great stuff Jodie! 8)
