Anyone else fancy a 100k this Sunday?

You could ask them if they have event insurance if you go Paul as the event isn't listed on the BC website?

Interesting debate could arise from this.

There's very little information on the event but on the details of the series it says 'Participants take part at their own risk and must ride safely and with consideration to other road users. Neither the promoter nor the promoting club accept any liability whatsoever'

So on one hand you could ride the event understanding that you are riding on the roads taking the same risk as you would on a normal club ride.

On the other, and the legal eagles will no doubt expand on this, you cannot under UK law discharge your responsibilities of 'negligence' by issuing a disclaimer like the one above. So as you rightly point out, if they have no event insurance and an accident occurred and was proved to be down to the organiser's negligence....where does the buck stop?

Can of worms!

Disclaimers are only there to prevent participants claiming on the organiser or club and as you say Paul are a load of rubbish. But more importantly where does the buck stop when a third party uninvolved with the event puts in a claim?
Perhaps they have insurance fron elsewhere? A low point in Cliftons recent history was an Otley member and leagle eagle as guest speaker at the club dinner preaching to us all to get 3rd party cover. I cannot believe a club of Otleys reputation haven't thought this one through?

A memorable club dinner. That one is likely to remain uncontested champion of "worst after dinner speech" for a long, long time.

I dont think that Otley CC are organising this event, I believe they had decided against it for whatever reason and someone else has stepped in, just what I had read on another forum.
