Enthralled? - I'm getting too old/cynical/nihilistic to get enthralled these days. Of course as a parent inevitably it's the children and their achievements/hopes/dreams that still have the potential to 'light my fire'.

Actually long sunny spring/summer days in the saddle do kinda seem enticing......

Who said Gerrard is guilty? He was in a club? So what? If my employer tells me I can't go to a club and have a drink with my mates I'd tell them to b****x off! If someone picks a fight with me when I'm in there and is lunging at me with a broken glass I'd use all my physical prowess to defend myself and hopefully they would end up worse off than me.

I'm not saying that's what's happened but the fact is, we don't know, all we have is what's been reported by the media which won't be the facts.

personally I'd like to say I was:

a, labouring a point
b, extolling the virtues of one of the cornerstones of the free world we live in
c, being self righteous and completely up my own backside

wonder what Will thinks... he's been quiet on this one?!

Not much, I dont have much interest in football, it's boring as hell. I'll only watch it if it's the world cup and england are playing, thats about it.

As for cycling I like watching that, I wish I was armstrong, he flies up those hills and all that I want to do the same :!: :!: :!:, I'd love to take part in the TdF and beat him

But thats just it Michael - someone like Gerrard should know better than to risk his reputation in that situation, its not a question of being guilty or not.
Like I said before it shouldn't be a big sacrifice for someone on that sort of coin! I doubt you would be quite the same target in a nightclub either?
But would Chris Hoy put himself in that situation? Somehow I doubt it but will be on nothing like Gerrards money!

Now here's a thought-a fight between Hoy and Gerrard! I'd like to see that 'cos i know who would win!

The ukclimbing forums are excellent - the regular Friday afternoon cr*p joke thread is a classic. Clearly, many people who climb have much too much time on their hands... (but not me...)

Football, Yob culture!

Cycling, emphasis is purely on athletic performance

Put a load of men in a pub with a big screen showing a footy match= trouble/ violence.

Give a footie player an income of £60,000 a week and he's off out buying posh cars, designer gear, being seen in the best night clubs with a scantilly clad female draped off his arm. Throw into the equation a gallon of lager and some shots, now you've created a situation, a fan of a different club gives a passing comment and all of a suddenly Mr footballer rises to it and it gets out of hand. Lee Bowyer, Woodgate etc

When was the last time you read about a Pro cyclist fighting in a nightclub?
In my opinion football is way over rated, the players are talented at what they do but theres little professionalism shown by those at the top end of the sport, the role models.

Not quite the same but 'Tom Boonen/Night Club/Recreational Drugs' rings a bell!

"David John Rayner (born 4 March 1967, Shipley, West Yorkshire[1][2] - 16 November 1994, Yorkshire) was an English professional racing cyclist who died aged 27 after an incident outside the Maestro nightclub, in Manningham Lane, Bradford. He was put on a life support machine at Bradford Royal Infirmary but died next day.[3]"
