quick question... insurance

Post by MichaelCarter »

I saw the answer to this a few months ago but I can't remember where...

Can anyone recommend a decent bike insurance deal? I'm looking at insuring a £2000 bike for at home and when it's locked up with a good quality D-lock in the cycle area at my work.

Thanks

Michael

Add it to your home insurance. This is usually a lot cheaper than a separate policy.

Marks and Spencer home insurance covers bikes up to £4000 at or away from home.

Or my policy does anyway, and it is reasonably priced

I increased my amount of cover on the home contents insurance and it worked out a lot cheaper than the other type of cycle insurances.

Responses much appreciated. Slight issue I have with home insurance is I'm a tenant and my home possessions are covered by my landlords insurance and I don't want to ask him to increase his to cover my bike away from home so just wondered if anyone had separate policies?

  not sure I'd trust all my possessions to a policy held by someone else!

We found that Greenbee (John Lewis' insurance) was similar to M&S for cycles

"not sure I'd trust all my possessions to a policy held by someone else!"

I don't really have much - apart from my bike and my laptop which was nicked when some oik kicked their way in to my house this week and nicked it! (sparking my bike insurance issue this week!)

If anyone else reading this hasn't got bike insurance... get it!!! (I was lucky it wasn't in the house when we were broken in to)
