Is there something about Hope hubs I'm unaware of?

I'd posted this purely on the basis that it's always useful to have names named when kit falls apart - not specifically in relation to Hope as a manufacturer though!

Had a good Arthur Metcalfe ride after the initial stopping and starting just after leaving Easingwold, suffered more than usual on the hills but it made the coffee stop taste that much better.

Thanks to Rob for the initial write up of the Sunday ride I was dreading getting everyones name right. Numbers should be banned on these sorts of rides, because it tends to get boys far to excited, some of them really seemed to believe they were in some sort of race and as for the massed toilet stops,I'm bringing a girlie present banner next time. Rob was also very generous in his description of our slow down as having got round a very fraught flat 25 miles I couldn't keep up the guy's pace and Rob hung back with me. I rode home over the tollbridge thinking I might catch up with Nick and Alice but yet another puncture put paid to that ambition.Still, approx 120 miles and back by 4pm(including some stoppage time) can't be bad.

Alice has a very impressive bruise and will have to skip games for the next few days but is still keen to be out next weekend.

Charlie just a reply to your posting re: The Three Peaks Cyclo Cross Race.Before I do any race that is not a run of the mill Cycle race, i do as much research as possible as to find out as much as possible about the event.After this i should know if the event will suit my style of riding ,distance, terrain etc . after this research i have decided not to do many of them and moved onto another event.Maybe you should adopt that approach .yes i do agree in the peaks race you do ride very little thats why the fell runners do so well . you did it ,you finished it you live to tell the tail and give advice to those who are thinking of doing it and also warning people that it is not any old bike race but the hardest Cyclo Cross Race In The World.

That is truley brilliant advice. Thank you.
After all these years of racing, you would have thought I'd have learned about researching the events I intend to do. I really should have thought about that. Why did I not think to talk to any of my colleages at work about the event. Chris Young, having won the event on several occasions could have told me a thing or two... Stupid me.
Don't worry though, I will share your advice amongst my Coach Education collegues, so no one else makes that same mistake...

Charlie do doubt they already to research there races.I entered the peaks race in 2006. I found out some york guys had done the race , so i managed to contact some of them ,Steve Shephard of Yorvic Mountain Bike Club , he had done it twice i think and Colin Hawksby who had done it something like 9times in a row and had a best placing of 9th.He told me to bin the bike and walk some steep hills with a heavy rucksack on my back for training . He was a wealth of information, i think he even ran them all two or three times before the event, mad!.....Now you can be added to the list !......Now I am working in cumbria soon near a Winlater Forest ? does anyone know what it is like for riding , cross bike or mountain bike or should i bin the idea of going off road and stick to the tarmac?

When i saw the 3 Peaks results & saw C.Evans (Clifton cc) time & placing i was slightly shocked. Thought he may have suffered a mechanical or a illness. But what he is suggesting is that it was too hard for him!!

YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD !...............It is a hard race ,the hardest Cyclo Cross Race in the World !.........Charlie said the race had no point , do the other 499 riders think that there is no point , it has been going nearly 20 years and full to the brim every year. I think Charlie has a ghost to kill now , train hard train for the race and set a new pb!

Still, at least they decided to stop for the loo, rather than going for the 'on the move' option....

Yep, that was mentioned at the time - would have been most unpleasant in the turbulance. I mentioned to the guy next to me something along the lines of it usually being girls that go to the loo together - caused much hilarity amongst the Geordies present who started shouting "I'll mind your handbag, luv..!" The old ones are always the best.

Huh? Charlie gives an honest & critical account and this is the response!
You ever raced Kevchenko??
Its a painful and disappointing experience quite a lot of the time made worthwhile by occasional memorable performances - well thats my experience anyway. I'm sure Charlie would have felt his enthusiasm ebb away knowing how much time and expence had gone into the preparation and race. I'm also sure he wasn't there for the experience or to admire the view!

I say well done to Charlie for being so honest - this is what this forum should be about - and for hanging in there - its the hardest cyclocross race in the world apparently. I'm sure you'll learn from the experience and move on. The other 499 riders can have their opinion - so can Charlie.

Its funny how you can read stuff on this forum in different ways! My take on the 3Peak discussion is a bit different. To start with I was confused by Charlie's original post - of course you're right Paul that racing is a frustrating pursuit, but Charlie's complaint about the 3 Peaks was that it was "exactly as it said on the tin"; he had to carry his bike for an hour. Its like riding the hill climb tomorrow then complaining that you had to use the little ring. Now, I'm sure that's not really how Charlie meant it, I know him well enough - but that's how I read it and I wanted him to clarify. It made Charlie sound other than the experienced rider that he is and others on here tried to give him some support and advice - how were they to know he's a big cheese at BC and sits next to Chris Young?

Anyway, always good to have some good natured banter, and as I always say; if we agreed on everything then it wouldn't be a discussion....
