Weekend Roundup

Post by Tullio »

I guess I'll have to kick off this week as you lot are obviously busy bees.

A good weekend of Mountain Biking just gone.

Friday saw a large group out night riding in Dalby Forest. 2 hour blasts normally, or until the batteries start to fade. You should see some of the technology that goes into bike lights now..we're banned from riding near the coast for fear of distracting ships!

Saturday a group of 9 Clifton MTBers were back at the Forest for Round 9 of the NYMBO Trailquest making up nearly 10% of the field. Good to see some having a go for the first time and making the most of the great weather.

On Sunday we were back to Dalby again (we're getting our money out of those passes) for a 3 hour blast around new and old red routes, black and off-piste.

I make that over 20 different Clifton MTBers in action in a single weekend. Must be a record.

20 mountain bikers! There must be a collective noun for that. How about a "spatter"?

Anyway, Sunday clubrun for me. Lovely quiet lanes across the Wolds. Good to link up with a few old mates again and a couple of new ones. Well done to Carl on his longest ride in 14 years.

See you all next Sunday.

Howards’ group went off from the square minus Howard(recovering from cold).

Six of us set off, Shaun, Nickferg, Dave B, John, Aurthur M and me. Headed to Levisham Station via Castle Howard, Butterwick Great Barugh, Pickering, Stape and then a mountain bike road (including oncoming Motor cyclists/trialists) to Levisham. A couple of steep climbs and a fast descent saw us at cafe stop in Thornton Dale.

Dave B left us to explore Pickering and we headed off back towards York via Kirby Misperton ( Found the farm road so we didn’t have to go on main Malton-Pickering road). Then Amotherby, Coneysthorpe, (Aurthur headed home down Castle Howard road) Terrington, Dalby, Skewsby, Farlington and Strensall.

A great ride with fantastic weather, thanks Kevin for the route.

Weekend Round-up

Thanks for the mention Rob; I really enjoyed the ride last Sunday. Although I have to add that it was my longest ride in 20 years not 14! Are you going to make this Sunday's romp the longest ride in 20 years or just the longest ride in a week? THOSE BLOODY HILLS!! Any chance of just going down them this week rather than up?

In addition, I notice that it is the club’s annual charity ride this week; how do I go about joining in? I feel that it may be too late to send my form, plus cheque, off in time. Can I make a donation on Sunday and ride anyway? And what time do I need to be at the square?

Cheers.

I was thinking of coming on the Saturday run yesterday but was too tired so did 29 miles by myself and recorded a nice route around my area and up to york.

On Friday(weekendish :P) I cycles up to Selby from Manchester using my GPS that guided me perfectly with no problems, I was very impressed, It was a very clear morning, set off at 9, very warm no rain, was awsome , I went through the center of Huddersfield and Wakefield then onto the old A1 that lead me off towards sherburn, did 61.54 miles and it took 3 hours 33 mins averaging 17.3mph, it was very hard allot of climbing but I think 2 weeks hardly cycling and lack of sleep got me, but I burnt 3186 calories and went close to that big tower near Wakefield, here is a pic, should of taken more was awesome views over the pennines!

The pics aint very clear and the tower looks far away but it was actually less than 1 mile away, can see this tower from wistow but its so tiny and only noticable on a good day, from Oldham to Huddersfield it was all up hill forever, same coming out of Wakefield.

I'll be doing the same route every 2 weeks, probably on a Saturday next time though.
