Yorkshire Alps Up-Date

Post by Helen »

Hi there

Due to the heavy rain we may have to postpone/cancel this ride.

When we did our 'North of Tanhill' ride the roads getting out to Catterick
were awful,a 4x4 driver advised us we would have been better of
with a boat and he was right. There was so much standing water and it did feel foolhardy going through the large puddles ignoring the flood signs.
It meant we were behind time and soaked before we got to the hills even though it had stopped raining by Helperby.

We will monitor the weather/flood reports and Nick will try to get out that way to see what the road is like on Friday.
So could you please check here on Friday pm

Guys

Would you let me know if you would still want to do this ride, even if it's raining and the route may well involve de-tours due to standing water.
Just need to know whether it's worth Nick checking out the road situation tomorrow.

It looks like it will be raining. That doesn't worry me too much, but if the roads themselves will be full of standing water, I'd not be keen (safety as much as comfort).

Know any other 12hr routes with less rain - Whitby and Pickering have Sun/Shower forecasts for Saturday on the BBC.

I wont be doing this, heavy rain, tough winds and 12 hours, nearly 170 miles will finish me off for weeks, if there is going to be a route change I might do it if its shorter.

Hi Helen

I'm still keen to do this ride even if it's raining and/or detours are necessary. To recap, it's an 07:30 start from the square on SAT 13th?

Could anyone tell me if the ride is still running on saturday?

If so could you email me the details of starting point and time.

Thanks

I am happy to do the ride, although prefer not through deep puddles.

Good news for a Friday morning!
Mudguards, winter tyres, overshoes, mitts at the ready.
Looks like it will be pretty wet, Easterly wind, not to cold.

Right you are, Will.
Online forecasts for Hawes, Leeming, Richmond have all been revised down from 'Two drops' (heavy rain) to one (light).
My own forecast: a lot of faffing over what kit to fit/wear.

If I was going I'd just be wearing shorts and jersey and carry a rain coat.

I only look at the forecast for York, if York is sunny I tell myself everywhere is

I think I might come actually tommorow just I'll go slower than normal on hills and on fast straights,, I'll bring 15 quid so I've got plenty of monies for food and my bike wont get too wet, i'm going to go stuff my face with food with tons of energy now..

Sorry everyone, I'm going to have to cry off - extra rugby training session for number one son has been scheduled. I'll be with you in spirit.

Anyone wanting to get a few miles in on Sunday?

I was wondering the same thing. I know there will be no club run but any groups leaving from the square?
