Weekend Round Up

Post by Helen »

Hello there

Group of seven for the club run, including a few people who had switched over from Saturday for this week.
Bernard took us out to Ravenscar via Rillington, lockton, climb with a couple hairpins :D and a lovely view of Robinshood Bay.Hard to believe now but the sun was shining and the sky was blue. The cafe was good, although there was a moment when it looked like Cath and I might have to fight it over the last portion of apple crumble, but luckily there was some apple pie left.
Rather a stiff head wind home but we were back in York for about 6:15.

A group of initially eight constituted the Saturday “slightly faster” social ride. Six of us lunched at Thornton le Dale, Broomwagon and JamesM having already peeled off en route. After a hearty repast (in mine and Willhub’s case, fish and chips - hic) and in heavy rain we said goodbye to Iona and Young Rob leaving 4 of us to tackle Dalby Forest Drive and Langdale End in somewhat challenging conditions.

Hats off to Willhub and John O’D for gritting their teeth and getting on with it and many thanks to PaulM for the tow round. A bracing 95 mile jaunt.

This coming Saturday I intend to lead another Kevin mapped NY Moors ride but this time taking in Castleton and, er, some little hillock in the vicinity of Rosedale Abbey, but don’t worry we shall only be descending it! So check your brake blocks (or in Dave B's case, check you actually have some brake blocks) and replace those frayed cables now!

Bah! You would! If you'd picked a slightly less hilly area for this Saturday I might stand a chance. Oh well, I still plan to take a day off work and come, if it's not raining (I know that's becoming my refrain - but I'm getting rather fed up with getting rained on this summer) and I shall use my lardy body to chase like billyo on the descents.

Looks like we'll be getting wet but I'm up for it. Mind you I suspect that I need to sit in some vinegar to get my butt toughened up for the kicking it's going to get!
