Wild life
I'm used to seeing wildlife - some of it even alive - while cycling, especially on early morning commutes. Deer, hare, stoats, weasels, even (I think) a badger one evening. Today was a first - a middle-sized (18in+?) snake crossing the road just south of Skipwith, looked a little like this. Thought it was a twig being blown along at first, then noticed the snakey wiggling motion. A bit of a surprise - can't say I'm a fan of snakes, but it's always reassuring to see wild animals haven't been completely driven out by roads and traffic...
When I was 14 or so, I was riding along a pavement with a friend who was about 5 meters in front and this bright green snake was wiggling around on the pavement, came out of no where, I told my friend, he never believed me
.
I'm always having near misses with things, hardly ever untill I was told to watch out for animals and stuff on the road but after been told about that its happening all the time
, just the other day this rabbit was at side of road, there was me going down the road at about 24-25mph and what did the silly thing do? dash out into the road right in front of me and back at lightning speed, if I was going any faster I sure would have sliced the poor little bunny in half
. Birds are another problem especially on the cycle path, they sat at the side of the path, you come along, they dont just stay there of fly left, they fly either right accross you or in the same direction just as a lower speed.

I was out one evening in the spring going up the lane from Buttercrambe to Bossall (grid reference available on request). Came around a corner to find a naked lady draped across the bonnet of a Vauxhall with her boyfriend (I assume) taking photos. She thought it very funny. He was rather embarrassed.
I used to ride to work at Thorpe Arch early in the morning, Acomb, Askham Bryan, Wighill.
Crossing the ring-road at Acomb to Askham Bryan, 7-ish in the morning. You used to get across the road and into old Askham Lane which was a nice secluded dead end.
This particular morning there were a couple of cars - a little one and a nice big posh one....I shouted hello at the couple who were enjoying an early business meeting between the two cars.....obviously not morning people cos they never answered me...but I heard some anglo-saxon as I rode off.
Never saw them again down there....
Then there were the 2 men in full camouflage combat gear, caps, rucksacks, greeny face paint and shotguns....scared the life out of me. They were both carrying a few dead rabbits....fierce bunnies out at deepest, darkest Wighill I guess.
All the people I worked with had really boring drives in....
