New bike advice.

Oh well, I guess the Genesis bike is a good choice for me then, its like £640 with the discount, its got a mix of tiagra and 105 parts, carbon forks, seems like a good buy and I'll get on the fitting thing or whatever it is at CH today, going in at dinner time.

Well I've reserved the Genesis, it will take abit getting used to, I'm going to get fitted tonight aswell, I test drived it with some SPD pedals on this time and the ride was so smooth, very nice, I'm also making the move to SPD SL too which I am looking forward to, using the money I was going to get mud guards for this, I've got a big anorak and abit of wet on my legs wont hurt me on the way to college so all should be fine, I'm just going to take it steady at first as the gearing is similar to what I have on my current bike so will be a little harder up hills.

I think so yes.

I decided to go SPD SL aswell, I could tell he was just pushing me into it aswell as yesterday I test rode the same bike with SPD SL pedals on and my SPD cleats scratched it and the guy in the shop got well ****** off so he trying to flog me SPD SL for the pedals

, I decided it seems a good way to go, they seem lighter and more surface area that look like they'll reduce painfull feet that I get on long rides.

From memory CH charge for BikeFit but discount it from the price of a new bike, so effectively it's free when you're buying a bike. Same arrangement applied down at Sigma Sport when I got my first Cervelo there.

You should find SPD-SLs much better on the bike - they're nice and positive. Pretty useless for walking around on tho apart fro clip-clopping to and from cafes etc - how are you dealing with the ride to college? Keeping a pair of shoes there?

Of course I always thought Will should go for a WILIER, like this Willy did!

Am I complicating matters or could this the breakthrough we've all been waiting for?

No I am going to use my carrera to college, but on thursday I'm going put the SPD pedals on my new bike as I'll go to college on it on thursday as I am going to marshall at my TT and using it as an opportunity to get my bike bedded in.

These shoes I got seem pretty decent, the bottoms of them are all carbon oh and I got some Clifton CC Bib shorts too

It could of been a break through allthough I went and got a Genesis and there dont seem to be any dealers around here.

Just want to ask about the bib shorts, are they supposed to be really tight? Mine feel abit too cramped in between the legs at the moment, wonder if I need bigger bib shorts or maybe just bed these in?

Also was about to join CTC today but does it actually count as some sort of insurance for my bike like against theft?

The CTC membership covers you for 3rd party insurance. You normally need this insurance cover to enter Audax and other events without having to pay extra.

The CTC membership also gives access to their legal team to assist in claims.

Alternatively you may be able to put it on an existing policy for e.g. home insurance but you would have to check that it covers the bike when away from home, college etc.

But does it? Is this sort of insurance like where when you bike gets nicked you get how much you paid for it? or if it got nicked in 2 years time and is only worth £350 would I only get £350?

I'm going to college on my new bike on thursday, bit risky, hoping no one will nick it I've got 2 D locks on it and 1 cable lock and 1 thick cable lock.

My best bikes are insured as an extra to my Endsleigh house contents policy (I think it cost an additional 14 quid or so a year at most, not bad for £1800's worth of bikes). Only insures them when they're stored on the premises, though.
