Thursday Eve TT, 5th June

Ladies and Gentlemen, you are invited to participate in the next round of the series. We're back on the "flat earth" 10 mile course just to the south of Sheriff Hutton - (full details on the web site, Will). Sign on is 1900 for a 1930 start and an absolute bargain at £2. I have enough volunteers for the event to run, though its very much a skeleton crew and a couple more would be received greatfully.

Please bare in mind Mac's wise words from 2 weeks ago: "Part of the skills of riding this type of course is reading the road surfaces to avoid problems. One rider, who shall be nameless, adopted the practice of swinging wide and cutting the apex and ended up in the gutter on the wrong side of the road, which was quite exciting but it can frighten the motorists. For the sake of a couple of seconds is it worth it? I try to help by indicating the road is clear or shouting a warning if there is traffic coming through but we cannot control traffic."

Timekeepers from previous events have also asked that riders try to keep the start and finish areas clear so they can see competitors finishing!! Please don't ask the timekeeper for your time while the event is still in progress - timekeeping is straightforward but does require a bit of concentration. The full list of times will be available after the finish and I'll try and get the results up on here as soon as I get home.

Anyway, that's the nagging finished with - see you there on Thursday.

Shame I'd have liked to do this but it would mean leaving college at 3 to get home and get some food in me and get changed but It means I would be marked notified and EMA helpdesk would not accept a TT as a good reason to miss a lesson in college

, I might still ride out though to watch at about 8.

Ride in with sarnies and race kit in the morning. Get changed and eat at the college then ride out. Problem solved.

But the problem is, any sort of bag gives me back ache and I cant exactly get changed at college into cycling kit. I'll just pray my teacher is not here hopefully he wont be.

...is there some sort of college statute which forbids this? It's supposed to be a free country!

Why not?! I work at the college and I get changed at college everyday and I'm always late and I walk through a packed Learning Centre in my Clifton top and my lycra!

Seriously, if you are ever cycling from college or fancy a ride out from college drop me an email. Michael

I might see about getting changed at college, just abit weird to me walking through college in lycra.

Thanks might do sometimes I like to have a ride around with other people after college depending if my legs will allow.

Agree with Michael and Arthur here - riding in with a bag of kit and changing later should be a doddle; if not 100% sure about walking around college in race kit, get changed in the loo at the last minute. Used to do this all the while for Thursday night TTs when I was at university and found it worked well enough. Also used to keep my race bike in the research lab, though, which I suspect the academics were less than keen about....

Hey, maybe we could really embarrass you and come in and meet you from college

I'll wear lycra shorts, hairy legs and work shoes. And complete the ensemble I'll dig out my 1990 Vetta (potty) helmet.... although it did serve time as a hanging basket at one point.

Hmmm that would be insanely funny.

Cycling is for me, I dont care what people think when I'm out on the road anymore, its just in big built up areas full of people my age when I'm on foot that bothers me. Like when its mega busy through that streey in middle of york where all the shops are, I aint bothered going through there, but if I was on my own and walking I would be bothered, on my bike nope, I'd happily wear my cycling stuff into college if I could ride my bike into college, into the lift and into my classroom that would be awsome

All been well I'll deffo be at the TT on thur, its set to rain so I have to get my shoes dry, or at least nearly dry for 10:30 the next day as I need to go to college, shame its going to chuck it down on friday but weekend is very great by the looks of it

Don't forget to stuff them with old newspaper(!!) as soon as you get home and take them off. Sounds crude but it's highly effective at soaking up any moisture from inside the shoes.

Still,wearing your cycling kit round college has to look better than the guys who wear extra skinny jeans, stupid pumps on their feet, little cardigans and long hair covering one eye. Then again each to their own eh.

Yes I think it does look better than the emo lot they all look stupid but still I'd just get worried and freak out or something, I'm sorted now for getting changed and all that.
