Sunday Club Run 11/05

Post by Helen »

Hi there

This week we will be going out to Dalby forest with the option of adding in Lockton /leversham for those who would like a longer ride.

Next week will be a hilly route heading out up blackey ridge and over to Grosmont back up the climb out of Egton Bridge to get in some climbing practise for the grimpeur.

Well imo I thought this week was quite hilly with those 17% gradients :P, I am surprised I managed to get up them without stopping, I had to stop on the first hill but I must of got used to the other ones. All together for me it was 114 miles yesterday and when I got home I was totally knackered allthough today my legs seem almost fine for a short ride although if the weather is good I might not be able to resist doing more than I should.

Was a good ride though and look forward to the next one, hopefully I might be able to get up the hills abit better next time

You did alright to cope with that, Will. As for today, best I can do is quote Rob from the Training page on our website - "At the core of every mainstream training methodology is the principle of working your body then resting for a period to allow it to recover to a stronger physical state than when you first started. The two words to note are work and **rest**..."

If you want to get stronger, you need the recovery period otherwise all you're doing is stressing the body and not giving it a chance to adapt and rebuild - and you just end up tired! Relax! Gentle ride! Chill!

You came on really well improving with each climb. You are very strong and you were working on your pedalling technique.

Thanks.

Well I might just have a steady cycle to my friends house today then, something to do, not much to do other than cycling when its sunny cause I sure aint staying in the house. Might practice more at the pedals too.

Dalby was mentioned last week and I rode out there on the chance our paths might cross, but it was not to be - I went east through Hackness to the coast instead of towards Lockton etc.

I had an "interesting" ride back through Flixton, Fordon, Wold Newton etc. - there'd been a fire in Foxholes and all traffic was diverted that way round it. Dodging cars, vans and caravans on narrow roads left a lot to be desired.
