Weekend Roundup 16/17th April

Post by Rob »

Sunday ride got the best conditions again and there were 13 of us in the Square (if you count the tandem as two).

As planned, we split the group at Howsham, with the regulars pushing on for the coast, via Leavening Bank, whilst myself and Siobhan (en tandem), Claire, Anthony and Catherine headed off on the classic Driffield loop.

Big clear skies, dry roads and little traffic. Café stop slightly longer than usual then back via Millington. I half expected the others to catch us, they couldn't have been far behind by the finish. 130k at 24kph, that's 30k more than either Siobhan or Catherine had ridden before, so well done particularly to them.

Its Illegitimate Banks next week. I'm looking forward to that one.... I'll let Steen share the plans.

The Barton Wheelers Australian Pursuit LVRC race for me on Saturday. I like this event as it's relatively short (just under 30 miles) but on a testing little circuit with a couple of big ring climbs to keep you working and a stiff wind to contend with.

Set off with the biggest group (C) which really meant we should have bossed it but there was zero organisation and co-operation for the first 2 laps. 2 lads clipped off the front and I should have gone with them but I missed it. After a 3rd attack saw a lone chaser we finally got organised and about half a dozen of us started working well. Brought back the lone chaser but ran out of time to catch the others up the road.

Must admit I didn't have much left in the tank for the sprint as I'd probably done more than my fair share of work but was happy to feel strong for most of the race (makes a nice change from my recent form, or lack of it).

Enjoyable afternoon's racing although I didn't appreciate the hailstorm for the last 2 laps (ouch!). Great to see Andy out and racing again as well.

Steady ride out to Masham on Sunday in glorious sunshine rounded out a good weekends riding.
