Inters/A-Ride for Sat, Apr. 09

Post by Tony »

OK, so with only a month to go, it's time for the FW crew to step up their training. I've been asked for a lumpy route with >2,000m of climbing. I looked at Reeth, but getting there isn't so hilly and most of the return hills are on the West side. Returning via Kettlewell and Grassington would have us >200Km for the day.

Given the rush to publish this week, I came up with what could be a long day. I figured we'd take lunch in Helmsley, but if desired, we can also take a quick stop at Rosedale.

Weather is calling for +10 with some SW wind and possibility of early and late-day showers.

173Km / 108 miles square to square, and >2,000m of lumpy goodness..

Given the potential for a wet start, fenders are recommended :P

View and download the route at RidewithGPS or click the map.

Nice route Tony, however if I make it to the square this week I think I will bail at Helmsley after the stop and head back giving anyone who doesn't fancy the long route a shorter option. May consider the cockayne loop before heading back but will decide on day. I will still get in a 100 miler for the day and leave the FW crew to their training. :D

Tony, after the descent of surprise view after Gillamor your route turns left up a white road/track. Maybe you could incorporate Blakey bank and Chimney for no extra miles!

Cheers

Hi Dave, I only just saw your post. Yeah, I thought that we'd take a vote at Rosedale on returning via Chimney or not, depending on how we feel.

Joe will be out and he sent me a revised route incorporating the Chimney.

Sorry I didn't make the ride, was completely frazzled this morning.

Just wondering which club members are taking 'The Fred' on this year and where is everyone staying? Suzie & I are just finishing our training regime on the tandem, heading to the Dales this w/end for 10 days to top it all off before a couple of weeks rest before the big day. It would be good to have a united Clifton CC presence on the day and perhaps a meet up the day before for a few beers and a curry ;-)

Cheers David
