Weekend roundup 9th/10th

Post by Jon G »

Good to be back out with the inters on Saturday. Successfully got there via the bike path with no flooding issues :D .

Along with myself 9 others joined the ride to Thirsk, Tony was expert leader along with James and Rich, Graham, the 2 Ian's , Kevin, Joe, and Pete. Strong riding by all and a battling performance by Joe who was not feeling his best coming down with cold.

On the whole the weather wasn't too bad  . Apart from the rain in the morning and some very wet roads with lots of standing water it stayed dry from late morning but quite cold. One of the highlights for me was returning on the bike path in the dark when I came face to face with an owl which I caught in the lights. It was probably thinking what the hell is this idiot doing down here at this time, the bike path was deserted , I probably interrupted its hunting schedule :D

Won't be able to make next Saturday but normal service should be resumed the following week :)

Shaun and I decided to do a recce of the reliability ride today.A tough day but dry ,well sort off.No flooding to report except buttercrambe bridge which was a couple of inches of going over the boundary wall of the house nearby. All these bridges were flooded except kirkham Abbey which is where we made our escape home. good ride at a tidy pace.cheers

The Sunday gang took things fairly steady, all claiming various colds and over-indulgence + lack of recent miles. Kept to relatively dry roads through Crambe and Kirkham then onto Langton and W Lutton. Fine day, some blue skies, but a nagging SW wind. Driffield café were inducing new staff and we were there longer than usual, but the ride home was easier than anticipated and we were back around 3, a spectacular double pinch-flat for IanK notwithstanding.

Great route this; all quiet lanes and rolling countryside. Thanks for the great company.

Thornton-le-Dale direction next week. See you in the square.
