Inters/A-Ride for Sat, Jan. 9th

Post by Tony »

Possibly another wet one in store for Saturday, 7C with light SE winds.

We haven't been to Thirsk for a while, so I figured this would be a fairly easy day out. If we want to add more spice to the route, we could head up through Sheriff Hutton and do Terrington Bank, and/or take in the Yearsley climb from Brandsby.

Not sure of the flooding situation around Tollerton, so we may have to divert through Easingwold and Huby on the way back.

~112Km / 69 miles square to square.

As always for this time of year, fenders and lights recommended :)

View and download the route at RidewithGPS or click the map.

Nearly certain bridge going into tollerton from shipton will be flooded and maybe from Alne to Easingwold .

No problem with the outbound route Tony but, I think, as Tim says, there could well be issues coming back via Tollerton. Would be safer to cut across to Easingwold and come back via Huby and Sutton on Forest. Sadly river levels seem to be on the rise again. :(

Yeah, I figured it might be risky, but I've not been out that way since our Christmas week adventure.

As you can see, I've borrowed your outward route via Farlington, but heading over to Yearsley, then turning North before heading West at Ampleforth.

Given the update (thanks Tim), we can detour from Raskelf to Easingwold and return as you suggested, through Haxby, while some of us will likely take Wiggington Rd into Clifton.

Cheers.

Was working around Linton -on -Ouse area mid - week roads still badly flooded ,managed to get through in van but too deep to cycle through , I would suggest alternative route on way back , unless you plan to bring snorkel and flippers. :)

I'm gonna try cycling up the Selby-York cycle path (cawood bridge still closed :( )so hope to be there. I recce'd it the other day to see how much further it was and I was amazed it wasn't much different . Just goes to to show how your perception is different to reality. From where I live it just seems the wrong way to go :D
