Christmas Rides

Post by dave c »

I went out on bike for 1st time on Monday after hip replacement op. Good ride round by Flaxton.

On Tuesday went Flaxton, Castle Howard, Terrington, Whenby, great day.

Today, Thursday went to Helmsley via Snargate and back via Harome, Nunnington, Slingsby, Castle Howard, another great ride, no floods. All on my new self built frame.

Not ready for group rides yet but hopefully soon.

Cheers

Good to hear your back riding Dave. Take it steady and hope to see you back out with the club in 2016.

Have managed to get out on some shorter rides throughout week, nothing as epic as I would do with Clifton but enough to maintain fitness levels. About 3 hrs today on local roads avoiding flooded areas. Selby bridge is back open so at a push could get to York via the bike path avoiding the worst of the flooded areas. Not sure how long cawood bridge is going to be shut so might have to consider that option if I'm out on a weekend with Clifton next year. I think there concerned about the safety of the bridge in light of the tadcaster bridge failure as the river level as dropped.

Have managed to break a personal record this year topping 6500 miles for the first time since I started cycling regularly. Previous record was just over 6000 miles. Since joining Clifton I've averaged about 5500 miles in 12 months and that's from November 2007. :)

Would be good to hear what others have done if you've kept record as a comparison. My figure Is put into context when you look what a typical pro rider does in a year, training and racing. :)

Im happy enough though.

Happy new year for 2016 and see you shortly :D

@DaveC: So happy to hear that you're back on the bike. Take your time, and I have no doubts you'll be tearing around on the group rides and TT course soon enough.

@KevN: I'm hoping to be out IF the morning downpour holds off; BBC showing rain all day from 8am with 18mph ESE wind

I'm thinking a trip to Driffield or Beverley would be the best bet for a decent route with a tailwind home. Beverley has the best cafe of the two

I'm wondering if there are any good/quiet roads between Driffield and Beverley (e.g. through Watton and Leconfield?)that would make a Y-D-B-Y or Y-B-D-Y loop possible?

Happy New Year everyone!

. A very happy new year everyone! Managed a few tandem rides over Xmas period which ended up dodging flooded roads, making things up as we went along. I was hoping to do 40miles New Years eve which would have taken the annual tally to 7,500 miles but found myself struck down with the Xmas 'cold' so gave it a miss. Despite losing voice and really sore throat managed to open the book for 2016 with a tandem ride to Knaresborough to meet fellow tandemers from Ilkley CC followed by a run together to bishop Monkton before parting company to head to our respective homes. A nice 55 miles in the bag to open the book for 2016. Main targets this year is to complete the Fred Whitton on the tandem and make a decent fist of the SPOCO TT series in the V60 category!! Gulp!! BTW I intend getting down to sorting out the admin for the 2016 series which I will circulate to committee members. Hopefully this coming week. Once again all the very best to everyone, here's to a great Clifton CC 2016.

Kind regards David
