Mid week racing round up

Post by Cam B »

4th round of the NYERRL last night at Kirby Misperton. Lovely summers evening but did not end well for me. Crashed on last lap on the only stretch of road on the circuit with wet gravel :( . Looking a bit like my knee and elbow has had an argument with a cheese grater....some unpleasant gashes to my knee and elbow and worst of all a broken collar bone. Bonking on a long ride, unsightly tan-lines ...that's ok.. but a broken collar bone was one box I didn't want to tick in my own personal cycling odyssey :( Count myself relatively lucky though as another rider broke his shoulder and got some nasty injuries to his nose and face. Hopefully...he'll be on the mend soon. Clifton well represented in the race and hopefully we got in the points?

Likewise at Kirby Misperton yesterday evening. I avoided the final lap pile-up by the simple expedient of getting shelled out the back of the bunch halfway round the first lap; it all set off at a touch under 27mph, which is, on a lumpy circuit, just not do-able for me (just on 300W for ten minutes, it turned out). I tagged along with a couple of other stragglers and did a couple of laps before parking up to watch the serious lads come through. Full marks to the rest of the Clifton contingent who looked active near, or at, the front. Hope you're back to fitness soon, Cam.

3rd/4th races continue to get quicker - I just took a look at the numbers from previous years - a sedate 24.5mph for this event back in 2012, and we thought things were hotting up then!

Bad news, Cam. That's really unlucky - hope you heal well.

I saw some of the walking wounded afterwards. Seems like a few went down. For once I was at the front and avoided it.

Crash aside, that felt like a good race. The first lap did seem quite brutal. I think Sharpy was responsible, as always. It must have calmed down a bit though, Phil. I had an average of 25.5mph for the full race.

I felt pretty good and even had a dig off the front at one point. Found myself in, what I thought, was a pretty decent position on the lead up to the sprint. About two back on the near side. When it hit the short ramp the guys in front slowed and I found myself a bit stuck.

Would think that I was the classic '15th - ish'. Which is generally more like 20th - ish once the photos/videos are out.

Cheers

Ouch! sorry to hear that Cam, having broken mine 2 years ago on a deisel spill I know how it hurts like hell. Took me 12 weeks before I could bear the strain of riding a bike on it. Welcome to the 'lumpy clavical' club!! :( :?

Cheers David

Mend soon Cam!

Really bad luck. i got caught as well but luckily my guardian angel seemed to be on standby. Managed to avoid the main crash with a bit of nifty bike handling and thought I'd got round it all when Cam came down in front of me. I walked away with nothing more than bruised knuckles and scratch. However by the time I managed to untangle myself from the bodies and bikes the bunch had gone. Disappointed as I thought I'd have a chance with the sprint as I felt reasonably good (just not quite good enough to get away from the bunch!). Still I'm counting my blessings.

It can be cruel this bike racing lark.

Get well soon.

Cam, broke my collarbone, shoulder and ribs 2 years ago. Search physioclinic.net at Ipswich - Brian Simpson. Was back on bike in 4 weeks. You would need to get collarbone lasered / magnetic pulse therapy on Monday. Any later and it wont have the same effect. Cost was £150. Simon

I reckon you were really unlucky there Cam.....especially given that you'd spent most of the race at or near the front prior to the pile-up.
Get well soon.
