Spurn Head, 14th June

Post by Rob »

0730 Start
165 miles
Door to door in about 12 hours.

Like I said before, this is a fairly accessible ride - if you've done a 100mile clubride this year, you're happy riding on a wheel, can take a few steady turns on the front and are able to look out for your clubmates then you'll be fine.

There are a few short stretches of unmade road on this ride, that's part of the fun, but I personnaly wouldn't be coming on best carbon deep section rims... It's about 65miles to the first café (known to veterans of this ride as "Camp Bastion") at Withernsea. Then 25 miles down to Spurn Head. There's nothing there bar a massive sense of achievement, some seagulls, a lighthouse and lots of sand (often covering the road) - it really feels like the end of Yorkshire! Return is via Sunk Island and the Hull Docklands Waterfront. Café opportunities are a little sketchy and we may end up doing the petrol station thing. Then an easy pedal back to York in the soft evening sunlight.

So, bring some calories of carbohydrate in your pocket.

See you in The Square

Did this ride a couple of years ago & it really is a good ride. As Rob has pointed out, don't let the mileage put you off as it really is pancake flat & riding it in a group should be fairly comfortable. Rob has also forgot to mention the ride goes across a warehouse roof & he's also booked some good weather :D
