Hi,
This ones an old chestnut but would appreciate some of you guys experience/knowledge.
Brief story is I have over the years done a reasonable amount of cycling one particular day whilst undertaking the 3 bridges ride It became apparent I had some knee pain I thought to the outside of the knee, I stayed off the bike a while to rest it up and have cycled since but the pain had not gone away it's there but does not stop me riding entirely.
Fast forward 2 years and after a 20 mile ride on Monday I notice Tuesday that that familiar pain is there again even after a substantial abstinence from riding. It does not affect me in anything else apart from cycling and I can bend and move my knee about quite freely with no pain away from cycling . I have booked a bike fit as stage one to try an eliminate set up issues, I am concerned that even after all this time if not sorted it may hinder me as I want to increase my cycling as we come out of the worst of the winter weather, any help or advice greatly appreciated,
Cheers.
Andy

Re: Help with knee pain
Andy,
Almost always, incorrect saddle height or cleat position in my view. Try going up or down a little with your saddle. Also is either of your feet at an angle (heels a little in toward the bike is best for me ) or the wide part of your foot before or after the pedal axle. There is bound to a video on YouTube about cleat adjustment. Maybe get a club member who has done a lot to have a look at you on the bike - sometimes something stands out as not looking quite right.

Re: Help with knee pain
Consider a bike fit, that will get good look at your position, its amazing how they can see causes just by looking at you but some measurements and testing and you will be set. Its easier and more scientific that guessing at seat height and cleat position.
Also consider stretching more as tight muscles can be a cause as much as bad bike fit.

Re: Help with knee pain
Thanks to all for the replies all helpful,
Broomwaggon, Yes i have been playing with seat height and cleat position etc etc I am hoping that a bike fit can sort that,
Andy M cheers for that have dropped them an email definitely going to get an initial assessment and treatment if required.
Sharpy yes understand regarding the stretching, I have a retul bike fit appointment in a few weeks at Planet X in Rotherham I just happen to be down there that weekend and can get it half price so thought I'd take it up hoping that's not a little over the top for a recreational rider but if it sorts the issues I'll take that !!
Cheers lads many thanks
