Ride london 100

Post by Allan »

I have been able to get a place on the Ride London -Surrey 100.
It all sounds great fun but I am a bit concerned about the logistical side of it - getting into London with the bike and then getting out again. The start is at the Olympic site where there is no parking and the finish is outside 'er majesties where there is definitely no parking. I doubt that you could take the bike on the tube so am not sure if it would just be too much hassle to sign up and do the ride because of this. Of course the appeal of riding around London on closed roads is a big plus.
Just wondered if anybody did it last year and had any tips?
thanks
Allan

I'm afraid I can't help Allan as I'm in the same boat. I pre-entered the ballot last august and yesterday received a letter to say I had a place too. So I'm also looking for some advice. Not sure about you Allan but when I entered it I was intending making a weekend of it so that might make my plans different to yours . But any tips would be helpful from others. Thanks in advance :D

You can get the "javelin" train from Kings Cross to the Olympic Park it takes about 6 minutes.

I did the ride last year and it is unbelievably well organised. I worried about the same things prior to the event. I was even in two minds on the Friday before as to whether to go down to London. I thought it would be carnage. Do not worry. They will send you a whole lot of info and the best tip is do what they say. Last year I drove down, parked up and rode to the start. I then got the river boat (which was free to riders) back to my car. The only thing you need to remember is that you are not on closed roads once you have finished!

I'm doing it again this year so keep in touch.

Bumped this back up to the top as its only a few weeks away now.

I know Mike and Allan as stated above are doing it but are any other Cliftonites entered.

As for me I will be travelling down on the Friday as I am booked with Sports Tours on one of there packages and stopping in a local hotel. Hopefully they will help with the logistics. :D So basically I'm making a weekend of it. Should be good.

Hope to see other Cliftonites on route :D
