Weekend Roundup July 20/21st

Fantastic ride Greg. That is something that is difficult to put into perspective but it will be the Clifton competitive ride of the year and its up there with the all time great club TT rides. It probably wont get the recognition it deserves considering the club record was the longest held national TT record! But the question is did you ride out to it?
Myself I joined Rich D at Thornton Bradford for Pennine CCs road race - 20 x 2 mile laps on a tricky little pot holey gravelly circuit. Cold and wet at the start. A few punctures and comedy crashes. Still getting over neck ache from sprinting out of 3 of the corners every lap! Actually glad this wasnt any further as I was seeing stars by the end but happy enough with a top 15 finish. I was a late entry having had it recommended to me by Craig from Cycleworks who got 8th as it wasnt a race I had considered. It actually turned out to be a really good event.

Not often I do something exciting at the weekend so thought I'd post...
Forclaz, L'Epine and Croix Fry for me on the Friday. The Forclaz is a tough little brute. My Garmin was showing over 12% for far too long. We settled on top of the Croix Fry only to be engulfed by a storm of biblical proportions. I viewed the riders coming past from the warmth of the cafe.
Saturday was straight through Annecy and up the Semnoz. My excitment at going under the Flamme Rouge was short lived as the road was closed about 200 meters further on. Anyway, this was a good viewing point to see Quintana and Rodriguez ride away from Froomy. I had put on my Clifton gilet in the hope of getting caught on camera, alas, the cameras were focused on the other side of the road. Great descent down the other side.
Sunday was a little ride up the col du Bluffy followed by an inpromptu dip in lake Annecy (sans velo).

I was dubious about reaching it:
It sounds like the city centre races were a great success, so I'm sure a few people will hae stories about those. Pandora What did everyone else get up to?
I was taking part in a very different championship this weekend: the Mersey Roads 24 hour TT. I'd picked a 430 mile target months ago, but I'm pretty busy at the moment and haven't been able to train as much as I'd like, so I was dubious about reaching it: Pandora beads anything over 400 would do. Nobody was therefore more surprised and amazed than me when I finished with 442.9 miles on the clock - I never thought I was capable of doing that distance! It gave me 15th place in what is a national champs, so I'm certainly not going to sneeze at that - I've got other things to distract me from sneezing, like my painful kneecaps, my numb feet, a bit of chafing ...
(I think Gill should try one of these, she'd be good at it, nudge nudge Wink )

Which side did you do the Forclaz from? I love the southern ascent! Semnoz all the way from Annecy is quite a climb - took me ages!mart66 wrote:Not often I do something exciting at the weekend so thought I'd post...
