I am around this Saturday and happy to lead this week's ride. The weather forecast is for a bit of rain and a strong South/West wind. It should be warm at least! So I would like to suggest a route that starts by heading into the wind and then we get the benefit on the way home!
My suggestion is a regular route on the training rides. It is surprisingly lumpy in the middle but the section from Sherburn onwards is pan flat and we should fly back with a tail wind. 52 miles all the way round, we should be back in the square for noon. We will go out via Tadcaster and back via Sherburn. OK with everyone?
Phil Bixby has forewarned me that the bit of this route where we cross the A64 after Thorner has been re-surfaced and may still be missing white lines etc. If so, we will take this bit very cautiously and use the footpath or stay on left of road until our right hand turn. It's only about 300 yards and not dangerous if handled sensibly but I would rather treat this section of road with a bit of caution.
That's our neck of the woods so we might try to meet you all at Tadcaster and ride with you until Cawood.
They've resurfaced the road from Cawood to Stillingfleet with that horrible gravel. That was a few weeks ago, so hopefully the worst of the loose chippings have gone.
Can anyone give us an idea of what time you expect to be in Tadcaster?
Maybe Reuben is the 1 to give an estimated time Fiona but when the route comes my way I study the route and head out to meet them then u turn and join.
I think the road surface of both sections mentioned is actually Ok now. I drive across the A64 every day and also cycled between Cawood and Stillingfleet on Wednesday evening and the chips are pretty much bedded in and the white lines repainted.
Hi Fiona, my best guess is that we will go through Tadcaster about 9:30. As Paul suggests, if you do the route in the opposite direction and shout/wave at us, we will slow down so you can jump on. See you tomorrow morning!
