Sunday club run 26th May

Post by markdent »

5 at the square. Glorious early morning sunshine put everyone in high spirits, sufficiently so that we even waited until 9:15 for Rob! Nigel took charge and led the way, taking us on all kinds of scenic detours up into the moors.
We eventually got to Leversham where we had a lovely lunch, and a pint - my first on a club run! It was a bank holiday! Then we hit the road which wasn't a road and headed for home.

After lots of miles in the hills it was welcome relief to drop down to Pickering and then onto the flatlands and back to York. Just shy of 90 miles, with a detour or two thrown in for good measure! Thanks to Brad, Pete, Steen, and a big thanks to Nigel for his 'guidance'

Popped my Sunday Clubrun cherry!

Five of us in the square on a picture postcard day. Ride started slowly for me when I heard something break off my bike and whilst looking down to try and figure out what it was I rode straight into the kerb, followed by a slow motion fall onto the grass verge as I couldn't get my foot down, Doh!

Quickly picked myself up and we cracked on, one guy in an American muscle car taking umbridge at our little group for riding on what he must have thought was his road! although I think he just wanted to show off his very loud exhaust system. Pub lunch with about 40 odd miles on the clock with a cheeky climb into levisham worked up a thirst.

Pressed on after dinner through newtondale forest (I think) and started to wonder whether I should have brought the CX bike, but after a few miles of rough stuff we were back on track....or road.

Other highlights, Steen proclaiming stout wasn't really a drink and more of a food, And Pete still defing gravity on the climbs even with 100+ mile ride the day before, top riding!

Big thanks to Nigel for the navigating, just shy 90miles and I suppose I can call myself a proper Cliftonite now. Cheers Brad.
