Yeah, I'd like to know if there's some sort of "secret society of road racers" rule that says no one ever* puts the maps of circuits on their website? Is this to stop rival clubs organising practices on circuits?
I'm a bit stuck for certainty regarding my future whereabouts, but if I find myself back in York, I shall be happy to:
a) Turn up and ride if space permits.
b) Assist the Marshalling
c) Pass up water bottles and make huge amounts of noise for Clifton riders.
On a numbers front - I've just checked through them all and race #1 has 10 spaces left, but races 2+3 have 30+ spaces, and 4,5+6 have 50+ spaces.
Its a pity the two series overlap as they do - would have been better to move NYERRL back so as to spread the season, but ho hum.
* This isn't actually totally true. The "Cycling North West Development League" has maps of all its circuits on its website.

Got the start list through for the 2nd round (missed the first as I was slow getting registered), despite the fact I registered for the race well in advance I am down as a reserve Which has to be said is slightly annoying.
Does anyone know
a) Is it worth my while heading down? Don't want to go all the way there and not get a ride.
b) If I don't get a ride do i get my money back? I would assume so.
Cheers
Rich

I entered the 1st race and was initially accepted but recieved an email from Organisser last week saying I am now a reserve because they had to find places for 1st and 2nd cats (otherwise it wouldn't be much of a handicapped race....there were loads of 3rd and 4th Cats wanting to enter). Organiser thought it was likely I would get a ride though but can have my money back now or even if I turn up on the night and don't get a ride I will get a refund then as well. I bet same applies to 2nd race but you probably need to get back to the organiser to confirm.

A report back from the Bishopwood event, typed after a night of being woken by cramp! A big Clifton contingent - Tim commented "It looks like a Clifton training ride" - all off in the first group. Two further groups at ninety seconds and a minute. Off like a *****y rocket - no hint of organisation for about half a lap - and the first group slimmed swiftly down to about fifteen or so of us doing a reasonably steady 26mph. For a fair while the road behind us was encouragingly empty - JohnS, Cam and RichD were taking big turns and the speed was being maintained - until after about an hour we got caught by the second group (3rd cats) being towed along by Dave Shackleton who'd ridden across solo from the scratch group! The speed kicked up a bit more, and with a lap and a half to go I started cramping and had to let go, getting caught shortly afterwards by a rather disconsolate scratch group and finishing with them. Despite finishing the evening with a rasping cough, it was great fun. Numbers were 25.8mph and 253W until we got caught, 26.3mph and 263W thereafter...
Many thanks to RichD and Graham for company on the dusk ride home!

Slightly rapid start to the series and as pace training ie chain gang etc has not been possible it took some adapting to for me.I felt ok to be honest doing turns and not getting into the wind too much when it mattered so when i pulled my foot out of my pedal i thought it was a one off(sorry RD for nearly putting my foot into your wheel)but after 4,1/2 laps and sprinting out of the top corner into the wind it did it again and i lost the wheel.Sprinted back on but it took it out of me and soon after got dropped.Got with 4 others and after a spell out of the red felt ok and finished quite strongly.Good work by Cam RD John setting the tone for the race.good stuff.cheers
Wow..first road race for twenty odd years (not counting a couple of crits at Tockwith a few years ago) so lined up with the guys on Tuesday with some degree of trepidation. It really helped seeing a good number of Clifton jerseys in the bunch and some friendly faces.
Biggest worry was of course getting dropped early but to be fair, felt okay. About a dozen of us seemed keen to work from the go and as has been commented on previously, the pace was pretty high. I thought we would get caught fairly early, but didn't happen. We were eventually caught half way round the 5th lap and the pace lifted a little.
Tired legs on the last lap and woefully unprepared for the sprint. Grabbed 15th place in the end which I was pretty pleased with, tempered only with a little thought of what if I'd gone with Cam and Richard before the last corner? Clearly still lots to learn.
Still, finished with the front group, felt I'd done my fair share of work and didn't fall off!
2 Clifton riders in the series points as well, with Richard taking 3 points winning the 3rd lap prime and I managed to grab 1 point for 3rd place.
Good nights work and looking forward to next Tuesday already.

Quick report from last night at Appleton Roebuck and the second race in the series. First race ever on this circuit - a bit tight in places, and the stiff easterly made the narrow road across the old airfield hard work - predictably it was where the race blew apart.
Off in the first group with most of the Clifton contingent, which swiftly moved to the head of affairs - Cam, Tim and John providing much of the urgency and a lot of the group apparently happy to sit in. Rude awakening came on the third lap when the Elites passed us; after a bit of scrambling for wheels they took over on the front and the rest of us tucked in behind. By the time a group of them got away the bunch behind had stretched and split - I ended up with a group of three 3rd cats and a safe, steady ride to the finish. Commissaire Julie Rodman delivered a talking-to after the race - apparently a couple of riders had sworn at locals; not a good way to keep racing on the roads.
Just over 25mph for those first few laps (and 260W, despite taking few turns on the front), 24mph and 241W overall. Well done to the fast lads who finished in the first group behind the Elites.

I marshalled last night and one of the locals was kind enough to supply tea and coffee at our junction. A couple of other brief conversations were also very positive. Not sure if the swearing was during the race, but if so, disappointing, and if they could speak, they obviously weren't trying hard enough!
Left last night feeling a tad disappointed initially that I was not able latch onto the elite group as they went thru us like the proverbial ‘dose of salts’. Caught napping like everyone else and feeling a bit leggy by then and...yes... they were really motoring! As Phil said Clifton well represented in our group doing a lot of work at the front which I think that is what you should be doing in these sort of races to get the most out of them. Other option is just to sit in and save all you energy until the fast group catch you and then try and hang in with them...although this tactic won’t earn you too many friends in the group!
