Training ride, Saturday 19th

Post by PhilBixby »

Well the Met Office and Metcheck disagree over the details but the consensus is that at 9am on Saturday it'll be zero degrees or less, and snowing. Under the circs I'd suggest pencilling in a very straightforward Wetherby - A168 - Wetherby route and take a look on here on Friday evening / Saturday morning. Personally I'm aiming to get through the winter injury-free and this will colour my recommendations, but if anyone wants to get Out There come what may then post on here and everyone then has a choice!

I would agree with this but sadly will not be out for a couple of weeks.

I've only been coming out since last year but think this is the first time that snow has been forecast. What do you guys generally do? Is there a point when it's just foolish to go out?

I would like to go out as I've been turbo-ing all week and a steady ride on the road would be welcome.

The training ride in snow and ice is not for me. If the forecast is right an hour or so's potter on my MTB on my own is all I'll be doing. Shame really not to do much this week as I've consistantly done 7-8 hours a week for the previous three. Tis January though.

I'll be out unless its actually snowing, in which case ill be trying out my new non-exploding turbo tyre in the garage (as I've been banned from using the TT in the dining room) :(

The Met Office website is now showing it'll hurl down heavy snow tonight and be zero degrees ("feels like" minus five) tomorrow at 9am. I reckon unless they've got it wildly wrong it sounds highly unwise to be out on the roads on a bike, so I suggest we cancel the training ride. Anyone brave/mad enough to get Out There is welcome to post on this thread if they want company. It may be that later in the weekend is safer, but to be honest the forecast is for ongoing snow all weekend.

Get those turbos cranked up folks, and we'll use this as a Saturday Turbo Feedback thread...

The turbo it is then.

Long Tempo session with some spinning on the rollers either end for me.

Gives me a chance to watch the Lance/Oprah show.

Ride report:- Two hours ten at 100rpm; was fantasising about the A168 by the end. Memo to self:- make sure best shorts aren't in the wash before planning sessions like that. Ave speed 0mph, Power 174W. How was it for you?

Gave up after 20 mins as effort to output ratio suggested need for recovery day. :-(

Survived (best word to describe it) 1 hour on the turbo... sanity damaged but some big gear efforts and some intervals.

Hoping for slightly warmer weather soon!!

90 mins on the turbo for me. Helped to pass the time by watching a DVD. The aim of the session was to find and maintain the HR in a zone suitable for middle distance (tri) racing - also a great excuse for not doing intervals
