The last training ride of 2012 will take place on Saturday. Traditionally the time when everyone gets next year's diary, the BC calendar starts taking shape, and the weather becomes ever more frustrating as we all try to gradually wind up the training level a bit. Hurrah!
It's been a while since we did the easterly route so let's pencil that in (York - Malton via the Buttercrambe road, Coneysthorpe, Terrington, then a loop of the Flat Ten circuit, then back to York). The forecast suggests it's going to rain non-stop between now and then so if we do awake on Saturday to find everything submerged, we can always reconsider, but at least it looks like being a few degrees above zero. It's probably a route that requires at least two groups - we'll sort things out at 9am in the square.
Phil, I've been out today and the road before the bridge at Buttercrambe is closed and flooded - it's too deep to cycle through. It could improve between now and Saturday but I wouldn't put money on it.
Just a reply to buttercrambe being flooded.I work out that way and if you ride through stamford on a166 then left befor full sutton jct.that road takes you to the other side of buttercrambe bridge and is not flooded there
Cawood bridge was closed & Naburn so that puts makes West or South route look doubtful.
Paul W, yes could go that way and it was clear today, though in the dip before you join the Malton road has been getting flooded - there was a shiny BMW off-roader X5 (I think) abandoned in the middle of it a couple of weeks ago, any heavy rain between now and then could get it flooded again - though as I say it was clear today.
Yep.iv got some photos of that sunken bmw it was bone dry malton side of the bridge tonight.ll keep an eye on it tomorrow nite when I come that way.I hope to be out on saturday if my bike is back from the doctors.
Tadcaster to Acaster was flooded on xmas eve, did Knaresborough via Selby, the 1st puddle was over the bottom bracket, the 2nd was via a farmers field and the 3rd was over my cross bar for 100 yards, after 70 miles i wasnt turning back!!!!!
just an update on buttercrambe bridge.road has "road closed" signs on.still water on the road but id say 2inch maximum.
bike not going to be mended until monday.so wont be there for the ride unfortunatly. have a good safe ride
Phil alternative route.Go the route via Bossall turn right and to the a64 cross that onto the Slingsby /Castle Howard road then left to Terrington or keep going to Hovingham and then to Brandsby All this was ok on Boxing Day. might see you in morn cheers
How about bossal, crambe then menelthorpe joining the malton loop at the quary just before the drop into malton. Plenty of rises but nothing too taxing and quiet roads
Tim's route (Bossall - Barton - Castle Howard - Slingsby - Hovingham - Brandsby) sounds straightforward. Met Office and Metcheck are for once agreed, sadly on it p***ing down tomorrow morning, so turn up prepared, folks...
Got a puncture in New Earswick, replaced the tube, started to inflate when the metal valve decided to split into 2! So, replaced the original tube and limped back home.
