Training Ride, Saturday 24th
Right, time to kick another three-pages-worth into life!
This Saturday's ride will be the nice flat southerly route (York, Elvington, south to Howden, Hemingbrough, Skipwith, Thorganby, Wheldrake, Escrick, Stillingfleet, Naburn, and back to York). Nice and simple with all the groups doing the same route. The consensus seemed to be quicker off first, steadier off last - is that right? If so then my suggestion is that the "steadiest" group sits tight until the minster bells, and I'll take/send one or two groups off (depending on numbers) before that.
Reuben, are you happy to keep the reins of the steadiest group or do you want a volunteer to front it up this week?

Yes Phil, consensus was to send steadier ten-to-nine group off after other groups. My only practical concern is that if this group starts later and is going a bit steadier, this could mean the training ride ending quite a bit later for this group. This certainly would not go down too well in my house and others may have the same problem?
Can we leave it at 8:50am for the time being and then debate this weekend and on forum about times? In reality though, I suspect that this ten-to-nine group will not exist in a months time because the standard in just 2 weeks is already much better and the desire/ability for increased pace will be much higher from everyone by January anyway.
Unfortunately I am not here this weekend or the one after due to other commitments. Tim would be the obvious choice to front up this ride as he did a great job last week with pointers on skills. Tim - are you happy to do this?

I will do the ride but if i cant get there will someone else do it. plus my memory has gone on how to get out of York for this ride can you send a route for the whole ride cheers

Are lights essetial because mine are broken at the moment?

I'll meet you out on the road as you're coming my way. I'll apologise in advance for my erratic riding and unpleasant shimmying as my headset bearings are getting very assertive about telling me they should have been replaced a few thousand miles ago. Still looking on the bright side, it's nice to be able to blame the bike for my erratic riding and unpleasant shimmying.

Sorry but set off this morning and it was not worth riding in .Fog and ice so be careful and ill see u next week.cheers
Reuben and Tim were sorely missed, with the "ten to nine" ride failing to happen - by nine a large-ish and leaderless bunch had turned up. Eventually, thankfully, a second rider who knew the route arrived; we blundered out of the fog-bound town in one group and then split just prior to the road to Elvington. I took on navigating duties for the steadier group of ten. We had three punctures and one crash (when one rider caught the edge of a massive crater in the road) but in-between these excitements we chugged along at a steady pace. 180W and just under 18mph average which wasn't exactly burning up the road but was probably pretty sensible given the temperature, which hovered around one degree - lungs aren't built for serious exertion in those sort of conditions. Nice tidy riding by all - thanks folks!
