Turned up at the square to find no one there! Had seen the discussion about Dalby but thought it was about time I got out and show my face after a 3 month absence!

Was about to leave when young Sam turned up, hoping to meet up in Amotherby with the new guy (sorry we were so late and you gave up on us!)
We headed out of York, via Strensall and Castle Howard before arriving at Amotherby 2 plus hours later. With no sign of new boy (understandably) we ventured out to Helmsley and up into the moors (cockayne loop - I think) Sam had a spill on a fast decent but was thankfully ok, so we headed for home nursing our (well his) wounds! Great day - fog in the morning but amazing vistas across the moors post lunch! Just goes to show you can never predict what you are going to experience on a bike ride!

Looking forward to seeing more of the gang not next Sunday or the Sunday after, but the Sunday after that!

When I woke up to that thick fog this morning, I had visions of losing the race through getting lost on my way up the hill (it wouldn't be the first time ... ) but when we got there, it was a lovely sunny day with hardly any wind. The climb itself is really good fun, I'd recommend anyone to do this next year and I certainly hope to be back. Anthony should definitely do it when he isn't feeling hung over

I didn't quite take Darren's advice of 39x17 on my skinny carbon jobbie, because I'm a skinny spinny type and not a big-ring bruiser like him. I did remove my inner ring to save weight and stop out the 25 cog on the back though - photo here.

I've got some news for Darren: the course was lengthened in 2006. The good news is that his course record now stands in perpetuo, the bad news is that he doesn't have the record for the new version of the course. Sorry matey.

I can also report that the free bottle of beer was quite nice!

Well, I'm going to expand this thread out to full "Weekend Round-up" status by posting about Saturday rather than Sunday (which was largely spent watching Ruby Sparks and cooking chicken korma, just in case yer interested...). Last of the Social Rides for me, and my determination to take it steady meant I ignored the departure of Arnie, DaveC and co and set off on Kevin's wheel. Our group split shortly after leaving York, with Bernard taking a fair proportion leaving seven of us including The Man With A Garmin In His Head to set off up into the Wolds. Glorious day for it - blue skies and autumn tints over freshly ploughed fields. Cake in Driffield and a steady return for 80 miles on the clock and sunset following shortly after. A good end to a run of sunny relaxed Saturdays, and the Winter Of Suffering starts here...

Are you sure the course wasn't shortened in 2006 Greg, it used to be called the Cragg 5 mile Bash. I understand it's 4.8 miles now?

The suffering is starting early Phil, I haven't even started my easy rides yet

Red Route TT for me.
Great fun - battered myself like I've not done for a while. Super turnout of 30 riders. Beautiful morning, no mishaps, only foot down was when got held up in slow traffic near the end. Got under 2 hours and believe a lad managed 1-38 (he went past me Doppler shifting like a receding galaxy). Had to leave before the full result in though, could anyone post it on here?

Innovative organising with analogue timing and Post-it leaderboard on side of campervan - loved it. Thanks to the team that gave up their time to run the show.

Sadly as a talentless old bloke, I need to do more suffering than a talented ex-Elite like you. It doesn't get too grisly until January, but teacakes definitely aren't involved. Enjoy!

All this talk of suffering is making me slightly nervous

Out to the square on Saturday morning to join Sean et al for a run out towards Sheriff Hutton where I turned off with Dr Dave to head back to Easingwold, Helperby and then home via Aldwark Bridge. Back just before 1pm with 60 miles on the clock.

Sunday I headed over to Huddersfield for my own weekly hour of suffering at round 6 of the Yorkshire CX series. Biggest field yet with 111 riders lining up for the Vets and Women's race. Nice course which seemed to suit me ( not too technical ) and managed to stay upright for the whole race (unlike last week ). Finished 38th which I was delighted with. Now for a top 20

Phil Hurt said it had been lengthened, I think it was by half a mile.

I don't get to start my easy rides for another week yet: this week I swap jerseys for the BUCS HC, then I can relax and get fat on teacakes at last.

Behind everybody else as usual. Couldn't make Bernard's substitute Autumn Audax and did the route this weekend instead. Crossed paths with Dr Dave and JohnS (?) just near Crayke junction. Have to say DrD looked a bit more alive than previous week when we crossed paths just outside Warthill.
