Big group of 14 in The Square this morning for the Best of Both Worlds ride. Age range 17 to 71 with every decade represented....
Standard route north, with very early cafe stop in Helmesley (my agents had been out on Saturday and informed me that Hutton le Hole had temps in and were very slow).
Had decided the best of The Moors could be summed up with the Bransdale Loop - am guessing few would argue. Good climbs, quiet roads, smashing scenery. The group stayed together pretty well on the climbs thanks to some sensible pace making by Andy and Sean.
Surprise View took us to H-le-H then the long transition to the Wolds. A few early baths were opted for and this left Ian, Steen, Andy, Sean, Arnie, young Pete, Nigel, IanH and self.
A few clouds on the horizon so took our second stop early in Malton while we were still dry. Then into the Wolds via Birdsall. For the Wolds how can you beat Thixendale and Millington Pastures? Final loop around Kilnwick Percy and the lung buster out of Nunburnholme.
Swung for home then with some great group riding into the wind. Rain finally found us in Stammy Bridge, but by then we didn't care!
190k for me, a few more for the rest riding into town. Average speed just shy of 27kph showed just how efficiently everyone rode over all those hills. Brilliant.
Think I'm giving Arthur Metcalfe ride a miss next week. (Post on the forum though if you're meeting in the Square to ride out.) So today was my last bonkers long ride of the year..... unless someone persuades us to go round Tan Hill in December again...
Weekend Roundup 15/16th

A ride for me, just Tony and myself set off with the K ride and in Strensall lost touch with Tony so went on my own to Osmotherley via Brandsby, Ampleforth, White Horse, Hawnby. Rode with some guys from Harrogate from Boltby bank top to Osmotherley, they stopped and I carried on back home via Carlton in Cleveland, Chop Gate, Helmsley, Hovingham.
Great route and weather, 100 miles exactley! One highlight of the ride was going up Carlton bank, some kids were shouting 'go Brad go' even though struggling in my 34/28!

Kielder 100 (miles) took place last weekend on the MTB side.
One tough event.
You set off at 6.30am to go round Kielder reservoir on the Scottish border and must pass 3 check points at 51, 62 and 78 miles inside a hard time limit, else you’re eliminated.
Last year, 500+ entered and just 180 completed it.
Perhaps as a result, this year saw 280 of the more determined riders enter and 225 completed… including our Phil H and Paul S!
They both did a little over 12 hours off road at a nippy 8 mph, when many could perhaps maintain that effort for 7 hours at the max.
Hats off to you two!
(Past Kielder finishers: Simon W, Allan H, Chris Cuc. and Cycleworks’ Chris C (Clifton 2nd claim member)).

Metcalfe meet?
Anyone from the Sunday gang planning on doing this?
Been out of action for a while, so it would be great to have some company!
I'll be around at 8:20am looking for some familiar faces, hopefully.
