Tan Hill audax for me today. First of all, a big thanks to Mr Broomwagon and his team for the great organisation and a lovely selection of cakes and sarnis at the end. A great day, really enjoyed my first Tan Hill and my first ride up those hills. We were lucky to get such clear weather on top rewarding us with the views which were spectacular. Was good to ride in such a large bunch for the flat bits and found it an odd coincidence that we all managed to regroup at Leyburn. Definitely the best day on the bike of the year, with great company and lovely conditions on a fantastic route - roll on next year!
Thanks all
By the way.. I seem to have lost a glove? If anyone saw it lying around in Shipton and picked it up I'd be very greatful to be reunited! It's a soggy black Craft mit, with little gel inserts on the palm. Cheers!

Tan Hill aswell for me. Group ride up to Masham which was fast, especially with the head wind, then it split up a bit and ended up riding with Ian H, Dr Dave and Timj (Thanks for waiting Ih and Dd). Great ride. From Leyburn back to Shipton it was like a Clifton Team tt with the team kit on. Well done to all. Hope everyone got back ok.
Thanks to the 3 of you got back in time and made my gig (kept going ok dd)
Thanks to Steve and crew for fantastic spread of food and organisation.

Hi all
As Dave said a great day out and up there as my favourite rides of the year. Not bad weather and some good riding with DC IH and Dave.Had a bit of a wobble after dinner in Reeth as my dinner wanted to reappear and felt pretty bad but DC helped me to the top and with no more drama we got home pretty sharp. For some probably a run of the mill ride but the distance 137miles door to door is alot furhter than my regular long ride so happy to get round ok.Thanks everybody.
Timj
Fantastic day yesterday on the Tan Hill ride. Sat with a pretty large group which stayed together all the way until Buttertubs. A great deal of grovelling over the climbs followed for me, before everyone met up again in the cafe at Leyburn, followed by another big group ride all the way back to Shipton. 140 on the clock for me at the end, which is the furthest I've ever ridden!
Thanks to everyone for the company on the way round- made for a really good day, and thanks to Steve for the organisation and refreshments at the end.
Tan hill was a great ride. Steve and family did a super job again, and everyone seemed to really enjoy the ride. The ride back from Leyburn was very tight and tidy, these Clifton rides really are very well drilled.
I discovered yesterday that Rob has ridden 438 miles in a 24 hour time trial..Yes 438 miles in one day!! I had to ask, he's obviously too modest to boast about his achievements, but I think this might explain why he looks so fresh after a little 130 mile ride.
Darren, it was 427 (must have been my mouthful of bacon sandwich at the time making me mumble). While I was quietly proud of said ride (some 10 years ago) it really was no great shakes if you look at the record books.
Great ride to TH yesterday. Personally not on great form at the moment, so had to use all my guile to stay with the very large group on the road. The loop from Middleham round to Leyburn has to be one of the finest cycling routes in the UK and yesterday we got some great conditions.
Additional highlight for me was "bagging in" behind a tandem coming down from TH to Reeth. After a few miles there were 4/5 of us tucked in behind - the crew knew what they were doing, but I felt a tad ashamed as they were laden with full touring kit.
Impressive riding from the whole club yesterday - efficient pace, tight formation, respectful to other road users, great banter and (I think) 16 of us finishing together. Proud to be Clifton.
As already mentioned I rode in the splendid company of Dave C, Ian H, and Tim J. Nice sensible pace and apart from a few miles when I felt the 'pre-bonk' power drain threaten we all helped ensure that Dave got back in time to leave for his gig. Hope the legs kept the beat OK!
Just like to add my thanks to Steve and family for the organisation and food, and everyone else for a great ride. The views from Buttertubs and Grinton make the pain worthwhile.
Another big thumbs up for Sunday’s Tan Hill from me. I was fairly certain I wouldn’t keep up on the hilly bits (probably not on the flat bits either if I was to be honest). After the brisk ride to Masham I did a quick in, out and away from the square with the expectation of being caught, sitting in for a bit then dropping off later rather than sooner. As it turned out a directional deviation on somebody’s part (not mine) meant it was only Dave and Dave who came past me - at Middleham - where we also hitched up with Ian and Tim who had waited - everybody else being up the road somewhere.
Once at Wensley things went as I thought they would – Dave, Dave, Ian and Tim disappeared gently into the distance and I soloed the next 75km. I completely agree with Rob, that section is right up there with the best when it comes to challenge, absolutely fantastic scenery and, most of the time, tranquillity. I also contrived to get in front of everybody at some point – first bunch came past me half way between Tan Hill and Reeth and then had to stop for a puncture (sorry I didn’t stop but maintaining forward momentum was critical at that stage) and got behind me again; bunch two, with Nige and Rob, came past at Grinton and apparently Heather was sat in Tan Hill pub nursing Nige’s pint of Guinness at the time.
Final Heave Ho, grinton grunt, grunt, Leyburn moor top and joy unsurpassed! – legs still working, downhill to Leyburn, arrive just as orders were being placed for afternoon tea. Everybody else polls up and all is revealed - this was my first stop, second for them (or more if you count punctures and pubs). After that it was a brilliant ride back to Shipton despite it being, for me, a real gritted teeth job to keep up (Leyburn ham sandwiches and chips did not travel too well either). Many thanks go to the rouleurs on the front, especially Darren (?) who kept checking to make sure us at the back were still there.
Mr Broom – thanks for organising it, and double thanks to your family – that time put in is really appreciated.
