This was the Team Swift 100, Jon C, Phil G and I were all racing. The course was three laps of Dishforth to Osmotherley and back and the crash was at about 75 miles, on the northbound leg of the third lap.

The rider killed was from Team Swift, he's named over on the Time Trialling Forum. I was some minutes behind him when it happened, so I came up to a big tailback. As I started filtering through, my thoughts changed from "Aw shucks I'm getting slowed down here" to "Oh no, is a racer down?" When I got there, my fears were confirmed: there was a body lying in the middle of the road, covered by a blanket. There were no junctions near there, so it looked like he'd 'just' been rear ended. The northbound riders climbed the barrier and trundled back to the start, while most of the southbound riders sat up and did the same when they saw what had happened.

RIP.

Awful to read and must have been horrific for all at the event. Thoughts go to his family and friends.
