Racing this and Factory that

Post by Cyan Skymoos »

I've noticed this year most of the start sheets are taken up by guys in racing teams, 8 out of the top ten on Thursday night were from racing teams...in a 3/4 race!
It used to be just the Elite who raced for teams. surely 3rd cats can't be getting more than a jersey. I wonder what the appeal of a racing team is for a 3rd or 4th cat.
Would be sad to see the demise of the traditional cycling clubs in races.

There are a few local riders who used to be Clifton members but have since moved on to other clubs - including a few shop-based teams and trade "race" teams - if any of you still check this board, what's the benefits??

As a club we go through a reasonably frequent process of wondering what we can do to support people into racing, and we talk about coaching and similar stuff - the session at the uni back in the winter being part of that discussion. But at the end of the day it seems to come back to there being enough experience and expertise to draw upon whilst still having all sorts of other cycling to take part in if you want it. On the evidence of recent weeks we've got plenty of talent finding its way through - both young and not-at-all-young...

Race Team

Post by Velo coach »

I run a small race team which is a collaboration between a local cycle club plus a few sponsors and a local business.

The riders get somethings at trade, some funds towards race entries and race kit. Not cheap though costs £4k this year to support 5 riders.

I do it to bring riders on in the sport so a leaning towards youth or novice riders that show commitment to race regional and nationally.

I find that riders come to teams for different reasons financial, to progress, friendship, advice. So a lot of similar reasons that people join clubs.
